Airline surrenders to America's obesity epidemic by offering wider seats

It says the average waist is 39"

Hot dang, there are some big people out there!
I can't even fathom that. I'm 6'1" and 195lbs. My actual waist is like 33" measured with a tape. And I'm pretty out of shape. I can't imagine how fat I'd need to be to get to 39.

Just say no to reaching that goal! ;)

Has to be better than the 2nd jumpseat in a 737, when installed. That one is a royal pain, but, when you need the ride......

I've never needed to get anywhere that bad. Like I'd rather sleep in the crew lounge than sit on that seat.

I mean I have a problem with legroom, but the only time the width is too little is when the super fatty sits next to me.

Unfortunately it is happening far more often than it used to. Just flew HNL-IAD with a guys arm practically on top of mine for 9 hours, oh and it was sweaty and hairy.

Make the dreaded 'middle seat' wider to encourage its use. Either fit them with longer belts, or hand out extenders automatically.

Of course, then you'd have to load window seat PAX first. :bang:

Never have understood why different loading patterns (rear-to-front, window-middle-aisle) have made no significant difference in the time to load an aircraft. o_O

The worst part is when I'm jumpseating, they say, "There's a seat in back!" and I've got to wedge in between two large people. I have some options if I'm on my own metal, but some carriers have the "if it's an available seat, you're going to the cabin".
I always give guys the option, "if it's a middle seat, you can stay up here," regardless of what gate agent Glenda says.

Sounds delightful...eww. Boundaries people, boundaries.

I'm 6'0" and 193 with a 32" waist. My waist is not the problem. My wide shoulders on the other hand... I get bumped by everyone and the beverage cart in the aisle seat and I have to scrunch my shoulders together in the middle seat.
