America's obesity epidemic has finally borne fruit (at least a fatty fruit like an avocado): this week, a Swiss airline will begin using a plane designed to accommodate extra wide loads.

And that's just in the passenger compartment.....

I should get seating priority or an incentive for being able to fit comfortably in the middle seat. ;)

In India, 194.6 million are undernourished, according to the India FoodBanking Network. But, more people in the tourist hotspot Kerala are becoming obese.

To curb the new trend, Kerala is implementing a 14.5% tax “fat tax” on burgers, pizzas, tacos, doughnuts, sandwiches and pasta sold at branded restaurants and food retail giants, according to India’s International Business Times.

One flight I had to change seats. I had a window seat, and the guy next to me was HUGE. He reminded me of a very large John Goodman. There was no way I was going to fit between him and the window. But, that said, I'm 6'3 230.

I always move to the middle if I see someone might be uncomfortable. You definitely make a sacrifice with that height! I am 5' 6" and tiny so it isn't too uncomfortable. :D
 
I still think that if you need a seatbelt extension you should be required to buy two seats. You basically rent space. And if you exceeded the allotted space you rented, you are using up some of the space someone else paid for.
 
Won't stop the current trend in the US of muffin top seating.

The average airliner looks like it's full of caterpillars side sleeping.

The worst part is when I'm jumpseating, they say, "There's a seat in back!" and I've got to wedge in between two large people. I have some options if I'm on my own metal, but some carriers have the "if it's an available seat, you're going to the cabin".

Every time they come to close the door on a full airplane I think, "no, No NO!! NOOOO!" I'd rather sit on a 73 jump seat for 5 hours than wedged in between to average sized people in row 36.

I hate middle seats, but the only thing worse is the last window seat on a 737. No recline I can live with. Unless I'm in economy comfort, out of respect to the person behind me I don't usually recline. But where the cabin starts to curve in towards your head? Screw thar so much.

Has to be better than the 2nd jumpseat in a 737, when installed. That one is a royal pain, but, when you need the ride......
