Any Frontier guys here?

I'll bring up this sorta dead thread. I updated my app and got a call from Frontier, as I see they are trying to hire a lot of folks. Just a "lets talk, why not?" voicemail (I was flying) and it's an interesting thought. What's the current consensus among Frontier guys and gals on coming to Frontier, should it be offered? I'll come interview if asked, always a good skill to practice and not a strong suit of mine.

I'm OK with my Dash captain position at my current regional (Commutair) and halfway to 1000 TPIC with 6000 TT. I should be on the 145 as captain early next year at C5. The money at Frontier isn't good, but isn't a total deterrent either. And never knowing how this world will go, I'd let to get at least out of the regionals to an LCC or major. Frontier still seems like more of a career gamble than Spirit or even Allegiant.

Just trying to get a feel from folks there. Thanks!

IMO, I'd stick it out and get the jet CA position for the jet PIC as well. Are you eligible for the United program with Commutair? If so, go that route. In this upcoming hiring environment, IMO, I'd stay at a regional until called by DL/AA/UA.

(Largely) for the same reason Virgin did: the inevitable merger with an ALPA carrier.

They valued their future. And today they are sitting left seat of a 777 at EWR. Or retired after sitting left seat of a 777 in EWR. No penalty for them whatsoever. They flourished (relatively speaking) in their careers.
so you think it's ok to scab? Got it.

There are a few of us here, I'll offer my own insight. We obviously need work on our CBA, it isn't a secret and nobody here that I've worked with is happy with our current compensation package. We've been assigned a mediator and are awaiting the first session in that step of the process. The general opinion is that we'll end up taking it to the self help phase before we see real progress. When that might be and if we actually get released is anyone's guess but rumors say it'll happen sooner rather than later.

The company has quite a bit of growth coming, I've heard anywhere from 100-120 airplanes when all is said and done, right now we're sitting around 60-ish. I wouldn't count on a 2 year upgrade anymore but stranger things have happened. MCO tends to be the junior base, ORD next and DEN senior most. Recently, new hires are getting DEN but are able to hold MCO/ORD within a vacancy bid or two. We are opening a PHL FA base, but no word on if it too will become a pilot base. The next domicile to open out west is heavily rumored to be LAS or PHX sometime in 2017. Alledgedly.

Company wise we have some of the highest profit margins in the industry. We do have some maturing to do operationally speaking but it seems to be improving. The LCC market share is still pretty small, with room to grow but I imagine it will all be hotly contested.

My own experience here has been positive overall. I'd still take my worst month here over my best month at a regional and the crap pay isn't forever. That doesn't make it any easier to endure but I played the "if the music stops" game, followed the "go to the first place that calls" adage and decided I'd much, much rather be here than back at a regional. My quality of life improved noticeably even as a commuter. While we do have some tough trips schedule wise, generally speaking the flying is pretty easy.

I know I rambled a bit, I just finished a 4 day so feel free to ask any questions you have and I'll attempt to form a coherent answer. Oh, be sure and do interview prep. Whether this is a practice interview or your next step or a career job, it'll pay dividends. If you do take the job, just show up ready to fight and stand with the rest of us if that time should come. Overall we have an outstanding pilot group here.

Oh, we voted ALPA mostly because it brings far more firepower in terms of representation and bargaining than our in house union would have. Merger protection was a part of that, but mostly it was to give ourselves the best possible chance to get the best possible CBA we could. So far it seems to have been a wise choice.
