Asking for the jumpseat and other lost traditions

There were a couple of games that I just played the poop out of...usually with people who were just great peeps.

MechWarrior 2
Interstate '76
Half-Life
Counter-strike
Battlefield 1942 (not the later versions)
Dark Ages of Camelot
WOW

Good times and lots and lots of yuks. BF1942 and WOW especially we had a tight, yet wildly diverse, set of peeps that were just a hoot to play with that I still consider friends.

That said, I totally got my money's worth out of Half Life/CS. Today's games are OK, but people are so focused on "awards" and "trophies", it's taken some of the fun out of it. I play MWO, but there doesn't seem to be any groups worth hanging with.

We played the crap out of BF42. The Pirates mod was fun.

When Battlefield Vietnam came out, my computer pretty much became solely dedicated to that game.

AirWarrior (And II, and III. Awesome game, still unmatched.)
WarBirds (Meh? You were either an AW guy or a WB guy. Guess I was an AW guy... and the A26!)
Eve Online (omg, also absolutely awesome and still incredible.)
Quake and Q2. Lan party, anyone? ;9 Also q2tf.
MUDs (Specifically GemStone: DragonRealms. Incredible, immersive, fascinating, addictive. Ever so much more immersive and awesome than -any- graphical MMO has ever been. Also Iron Realms' Achaea.)
Also Netris, nethack, netrek.
HL/HL2/CS/TF (mod)
AA:O.

Actually, to be honest, I could go on like this for quite a long time. I don't know how I managed to waste so much time on all those games and still get other stuff done, but I did.

Oh, and I always ask to JS. ~.^

Aw heck yeah.

I ran a FIDO-connected TW2002 on my bbs.

Loved that game. EVE online was the first (only) worthy replacement I found.

And to the casual observer of JC, the reason why threads go off-topic is:

a. They're generally "talked out" and beat to death already
b. The right mix of people filter in and, well, ALL HAIL TRADE WARS!

To be honest, I think it's somewhat incredible to come across someone who actually remembers TW at all.

It's like when you see those rare and unusual forest insects that somehow manage to find and breed with their rare and unusual counterparts within their five-day lifespan.
