777 strikes approach lights on departure 9/15

I now have verification from a Qatar Airways pilot that the selection in the OPT was something like 09R T1 in the runway list. The T1 meaning temporary for a change in the stopway, not intersection T1. That is a huge human factors mistake in the naming convention for that runway. It doesn't absolve the crew of all responsibility as they should have verified the runway length in the OPT after making that selection, but it certainly helps clarify why this happened.

Personally I would have used full length and I'm not sure why this crew did not. Perhaps that OPT selection also led them to believe that full length was not an option. Sounds strange, I know, but when crews are at unfamiliar airports those kinds of mistakes can happen.

What is the status of the crew and damage to the aircraft?

One guy has to read it, one guy has to enter it. Or, the FO reads it and enters it, and then you have to stop and set the brake so the CA can read it and verify it. Conversely, on the augmented crews the relief FO reads it and the other FO enters it.
Several times while jumpseating I've seen the captain reading it from the PDC while taxiing.

You're not an LCA or Fed.
Nope. Never said I was and I did not claim they were wrong. I merely passed on what I observed and said I liked our way better. One should always be looking for ways to improve on things.
I know f you read just that one post it seems I am being critical of the crews. But if you go back and read the thread I was just making an observation of what I saw in response to someone talking about trying to taxi and brief at the same time.

I was just pointing out that what happens when an LCA is not on the airplane is not what is supposed to happen! Captains are not supposed to be looking at the AWABS while the aircraft is moving.

I've yet to see a Baymont or America's Best that does not have bedbugs. After a couple instances at each, I just leave them off my list of candidate places to stay.

I'm a Marriott-brand guy. Yeah they're more expensive, but after being based in NYC for about a decade, they're still relatively cheap.

All you DTW haters....I laugh at you from my reasonably priced commuter hotel with good transportation.

And the National Coney Island serves breakfast ALL DAY.

So there.

Two conversations at DTW sum up that city.
At Starbucks.
Me: "I'd like a tall coffee, no room."
Server: "We're out of coffee. Do you want me to brew some?"

Chick-Fil-A
Me: "I'd like a spicy chicken biscuit."
Server:"We don't have those."
Me: "Do you have spicy chicken files?"
Server: "Yes."
Me: "Do you have biscuits?"
Server: "Yes."
Me: "welllllll.... Why don't you put one of those spicy chicken files on a biscuit."
Server: "We can't do that sir. Spicy chicken is for lunch."
