I hate these public-but-anonymous shout outs.

I love that JC members are helping JC members in the industry and elsewhere -- that's one of the main reasons I love this forum and continue to participate here. But the "congrats to someone" stuff unfortunately comes off as "I-know-something-you-don't-know", even if the actual intent is far from it.

This website, in and of itself, has taught this non-networker how to network.

Also, I think it's way more important to add that no matter how one gets a call, people's resume and how they interview gets the job.

All a recommendation can do is get someone a chance. From that point, it's solely in their hands. Way more important is being impressed that given the opportunity, they met the challenge. Very worthy.

Some people want to be careful about disclosing where they actually work until they are off probation or until they have a solid understanding of the social media rules of their new company.

I understand that completely.

As the saying goes, "concealed is concealed". If folks don't want people to know, then don't talk about it!

It's the nature of the business.

If I say "AmmaInternetUser got a job at Comair!", he is going to get absolutely barraged with "OMG! Dude! We've always been friends, hook a brother up! TT? ME? PIC? When can I hold Meridian, MS because my wife who expects me to never leave our small town doesn't want me to commute and a crashpad is nothing but a sex den with voluptuous hooker-zombie secretary students"*

So I'd rather they out themselves or give them the option to remain anonymous.

*I read the Facebook pilot wive groups, they're hilarious.

This thread is a perfect example -- I have no idea what it means.

Does it mean that Polar got a job somewhere, and shouldn't buy beer because he's a new guy at another employer?

Does it mean that Polar assisted another person in getting a job at his shop, and is a super bro because this third party is a good dude, too?

I'd love to congratulate both someone who made it somewhere, as well as reward guys who pay it forward: both are reasons why JC is great.

I just have no f'n idea what this thread (nor the other litany of "congratulations to someone" threads) mean because apparently I'm not connected enough outside of this forum to know these details. It is hard to share in someone's joy when you have no idea who it is or what it is for.
