PSA New Hire FO Classes Suspended

Nope. 5 CN standups worth 5 hours each and a 19 hour CN 4 day that kept me from 2 25+ hour 4 days has nothing to do with how I bid.

I just happened to not have bid the coverage days. Woops I guess?

If they were PNs, sure you're right. But 65% bidding in base with that many CN days is just absolute crap.

For those of us brand new to 121, can someone define a bit of lingo:
CN - ?
PN - ?
standups - ?

Can't help on the CN or PN.
Standups, NAPS or CDOs (Continuous Duty Overnights), are trips where you take the last flight out from a base, spend the night in a hotel, then come back on the first flight to the base.. You are on continuous duty (thus the name CDO). In the bad ol' days prior to FAR 117 this meant if you were running behind it ate into your time at the hotel. This has changed, but I don't bid them so I'm not 100% sure what the rule is now. The good part is that as soon as you get to your base you are off for the day.
These trips can go very senior as you are home each day if you are home based. Commuters might like them as they are commutable trips. When I was in the Guard I liked them. I would commute in, do my trip, go to my Guard unit and take a nap in the bunk room, fly an AFTP, then go to work. Repeat the next day, then go home.
Depending on duty rigging they can go very senior. At my airline they are very senior and some FO's will put off their upgrade as they can hold standups.

CN is coverage day, PN is pairing not bid.

So CN is basically: "we deemed the 11th of September a coverage day and you didn't bid any trips that work that day. Therefore you're losing the 4 day crediting 26 hours starting on Sept 12th for a 5 hour standup starting on the 11th"

PN is" we couldn't complete your line based on your bid so we just gave you some random crap leftover"

PN is your fault, CN is just absolute crap that is just the result of our "globalized PBS".

How come the guy below me got the 11th off and I couldn't? Globalized pbs baby.

I guess that is why I never heard of it. We don't get crap like that.

Sounds like PN and CN are for those carriers using PBS then? That may be partly why I'm unfamiliar.

A form of PN will happen no matter what system you use. Even with line bidding if you mess up your bid you can get some random crap.
CN is more a work rule or contract thing. Unstacking may be similar, but at least you have some control if your bidding system is good, and if you are senior enough. At least with our bidding system I'm senior enough at my base that I never really have to worry about unstacking, though if we get a warning from our scheduling committee that it may occur I put in another bid sheet just in case.

I hope they are able to attract people. They are one of the only ones NOT offering some kind of bonus, or hotels for commuters, ctp, etc...It'd be nice to have some folks under me in senority if I decide to go to PSA.

You will. The airline is still offering the most growth. 700s are still coming from Envoy and are all slated for delivery by the end of 2017 plus there are still 900 options left to be exercised. I've heard that AAG has likely already exercised the remaining 900 options for PSA and that we may take delivery of those too before the 700s keep coming from Envoy. Hence why Pedro is telling Envoy the 700s are staying with them through 2018.

In the end, who knows though. Envoy will likely have several more of their 175 options exercised and other airlines will shrink/disappear over the next couple years. Buckle up, it's going to be a wild few years at the regional's. "YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT"!!!

I turned down a direct entry captain slot with them back in July. Last week I got a phone call and an email saying that "the door is always open" if I change my mind.

Yea they need people. Especially CAs. They hired quite a few, but they still need more. I believe CLT has experienced the large majority of it's growth as a base, so I would expect another base announcement soon. I don't think DECs will be on reserve for as long as they think.

They told me in the interview that reserve was running 2-4 months in all bases in average. Is that time actually spent "on" reserve, or is that 2-4mos from date if hire?

My class started IOE from May through early July... A few are holding Round 2 lines, a couple are holding LCR, and maybe 1 holding a Round 1 line in TYS. Those in DAY and TYS are obviously experiencing shorter times to holding a line. And the majority of us who are still FOs (over half of my class has either upgraded or left for an LCC, freight, or a legacy) in CLT will hold a Round 2 line or LCR in October or November.

I do believe CLT isn't experiencing much more growth for now and there should be another base announcement soon, likely a hub because that's what AAG has been pushing for. My money is on DCA but there really is no telling what they are going to choose. I think the announcement has been delayed because AAG is waiting to see what happens with Republic and with Air Wisconsin's new contract. Not to mention AAG and PSA management have gone back and forth a bit about what the new base will be.
