Virgin American Hiring Window Open

I'm just giving you a hard time, don't be so sensitive. I'm not planning on applying to Delta any time soon, so I'm not too worried about networking. Just amused by the arbitrary metrics Your Fair Airline uses to determine who would be a good pilot and who wouldn't be.

Thanks for posting this! This is actually really good info, and the first time I've seen it put this way. Now out of curiosity, what is a good number of type ratings vs a few scant? For some, their airline only operates a single type, so the opportunity for other types don't really present themselves. Also do you think airlines generally care if they're airliners vs biz jet types?

Now on topic, I'd also like to know if JFK is a junior domicile, or would a new hire expect to be on the West Coast?

Subjective, for the most part.

If a candidate has something like CRJ200, an evaluator will look at other qualitative aspects of the application to look for a history of training achievements to build a rounder picture of the candidate.

If a candidate has CRJ, EMB170/190, "plus", and in addition he has clean training records, boom, he's got aptitude.

Honestly, I really don't think you understand what's taking place here. This isn't about Delta.

Delta isn't the only airline on this board.

Excuse me while I whip this out. There is no CRJ200 type. It's a CL-65.

I'll be in there like swimwear before long. CL-65/EMB145, and probably within 12 months EMB170/190. Whoop whoop!

I'm lazy.

With the amount of hiring coming up, you should be able to hold SFO and NYC right away, and LAX in a few months. All subject to change, but on the FO side getting a certain base is not a problem when we are hiring. And since we will also be upgrading pilots, there will be movement between FOs and their bases.

The real problem for a guy like me is when it does come time to upgrade, it will be in SFO. I'd have to commute for x years from EWR to SFO until I could hold NYC CA, where x is an undetermined value.

No no. You just don't have the coveted CL-65 type rating. You instead bypassed the P.O.S 200 and got the coolest type rating ever....727

I don't think he ever checked the box on that one.

Remember, back in the stone ages you didn't need a type to be an FO (or FE).

Do reserves have to cover all 3 airports?

Yes.

3 hr callout for short call reserves. Long call are 14 hr callout I think, but we don't really get those too often in our NYC base because it is small compared to SFO/LAX.

JFK is the primary anchor airport, and EWR and LGA are secondary anchor. All that really means is that you get a $60 stipend for transportation if called to a secondary airport (EWR or LGA) on reserve.

That's not how networking really works. You don't get to act like a dingleberry and then when you want something decide to buddy up with somebody.

[HASHTAG]#tierone[/HASHTAG] jokes and what not are funny when the purpose is humor. But you seem legitimately butthurt.

I got a 2.78 in college and took a really long time to finally finish up that last class. I understand how that might look to a recruiter who is looking at 1000s of other resumes that look exactly like mine, except theirs have a better GPA. That's nobody's fault but my own, and I bet I would earn more points by owning it than saying "it is your guys fault for having such a stupid metric!"

On topic,

I was updating pretty much everything I had when I was updating my Virgin America application. Earlier someone asked if I applied to the new position or if I just updated my previous one. My answer is "honestly, I'm not quite sure." So I tried to log in on my phone really quick to double check. Because my phone doesn't have my password saved, I guessed and went through a bunch of my usual ones and have locked my account. Tried to answer the security questions under "I forgot my password" but I guess I don't remember exactly what my answer was for those either.

All it says is "account locked, try back at a later time." It has been about 5 days. Any suggestions?

For an airline that really wants to be a tech startup, their IT has always been terrible.

I was trying to internally recommend someone through that same website you logged in at (useless by the way), and I also got locked out. I had to ask the HR lady and she made something work and I got the password changed. Not sure if you want to email her and ask?
