Difficulty learning G-IV, coming from an EMB-145

Having flown different turboprops, turbine helicopters and turbofans one thing I have learned is that major systems are pretty similar. Hydraulics are hydraulics, most operate at 3000 PSI and most aircraft have three systems. Some aircraft have alternators some generators, some both but the electrical systems are also similar.
Look at the similarities, check them off, then highlight the differences. I did have a tendency to confuse a few things that were similar, especially in the days when we had to memorize TGT/ITT limits.

Just think about your first time in any other jet...

Understanding it enough just to make things go right is one thing. Making things go right and smooth is another. Understanding the systems well enough to correctly identify and sort through an abnormality and not make it worse. That takes time, and hopefully you have some one with enough experience sitting next to you.
 
Initial is 3 weeks at Flight Safety. I did the full initial as part of their SIC program. With a limited amount of Jet and FMS time, I thought it wasn't overly difficult. My King Air type was more difficult.

The electrical system is the most difficult part. Diagnosing faults accurately takes a lot of practice. Something you won't get in a week.
 
I've done both a part 91 PIC jet type at FSI and a 121 PIC jet type. The part 91 type was considerably easier and less stressful, though also not nearly as comprehensive as the 121 training. Either way, a jet is jet. You'll be fine if you've made it this far...
 
It's an airplane. If you can get through one, you'll get through another. If you can't, you're in the wrong business.
 
I did the initial for the GIV at CAE and it was over 3 weeks, I felt it was a week too long and that was my first type rating. If you need study material let me know.

Wow that be great. I still havn't decided to make the switch or not, but have to in the next couple days so I'll PM you shortly. I definitely would want to have as much of the systems and procedures down before I even get there. Thanks!
 
Did my initial Lear at Simuflight on a short course. Drink from a fire hose much?
What experience did you have to convince them to let that happen? I didn't think it was legal for a short course for an initial at the schoolhouses. Interesting...

It was for an SIC type. I did everything except for an SE go around. I already had systems knowledge because I had about 6 months and 200 hours with the company.

But, AFAIK, all you need is a record of training, and to pass the type ride. I don't think there is necessarily any kind of real requirement for a specific amount of training.
