Medical Reform Legislation Introduced

For all of these people talking about unecessary risks and all that... You know about driver's licenses, right? I mean, I think we can all agree that someone who is 95 years old and can't see through their cataracts shouldn't be driving a car (nor flying a plane), but how many people have driver's licenses and wear insulin pumps? And how many accidents do they cause? And about acceptance of risk, the average non-pilot passenger is going to find a small airplane much more dangerous than a pilot passenger will, whether or not the pilot had a physical in the last five years.

Drivers licenses should be hard to get. It should be an extremely tough check ride. There should be a flight review every 24 calender months as well. Both for safety and efficiency. This would eliminate the "but that's agism" argument.

But when was the last time a law-abiding, responsible, mentally sound owner of a firearm shot one or many people?

Problem is, either they or a family are legal like that until the day of the shooting when all hell breaks loose. Adam Lanza didn't break any law until the instant he pointed the gun at his sleeping mother and pulled the trigger. And currently no law requires you to take a medical exam to obtain a gun.

Eh. Don't see how getting hit by an LSA is any less of a bad thing than getting hit by a 152. If no medical means that someone can go out and fly a little bit more to get current, then so be it.

PBOR2 is continuing to trend things in the right direction. One thing I wish they had included was something making the FAA TFR "official". Right now, the only way to get an "official" TFR brief is from actually speaking to an LM briefer, who, you guessed it, looks at the same web page.

Oh yea, and it should include an official rebuke to the FAAAAAA for acting like a sputtering fussbudget with regards to the part 23 re-write. Come on, guys, CAR 3 airplanes are still buzzing around safely, and have for many decades now.

Here's a tip...more GA, more FAA inspectors....remember GADOs? You could be living in/near your home town right now. Last time I went to the FSDO, I had to make an appointment, drive a LONG way out into the swamp, nowhere NEAR an airport, pass through 3 locked gates, show my ID....all to pick up an aircraft registration form...which is the one form you can't download from the interwebz. Look, I like you folks, and want to get along, but geeeze, give me something to work with here.

Straw purchase of firearms by his mother might have been illegal. Not sure of the laws in his state but he might have concealed mental illness diagnoses and treatment when purchasing new firearms.

I like the NOTAM importance prioritization. It's annoying AF to have to sift through 20 "mowing the edges of this taxiway" notams to find the "Runway XX Closed" can be a pain in the ass. Also it seems like they are going to be placing restrictions on when a 709 ride can occur.

It's even more annoying to sift through 15 unlighted obstacle tower NOTAMs before getting to something important. Like an inoperative localizer or closed runway/taxiway. I seriously do NOT care about a 159' AGL unlighted tower that's 10 miles from the airport.

Straw mans argument. There are more guns than cars in the US. There are far fewer nut jobs doing what Adam Lanza did in the US. The average elderly person has no business driving, but the average American has every right, AND the mental wherewithal to own a gun. If you don't like 'Murica being the gun capital of the world, pack your bags. It isn't going to change.

Oh, BTW, here is a little tidbit of just how dangerous the US is in terms of how dangerous we really are compared to the rest of the world.

Oh, and I'm not left, and I'm not right. But I do pay attention to statistics, and, well, that's pretty much all this guy presents here.

Edit to add: I don't really like this guy, but you can't argue with his statistics.

my Dad's widow lived alone and drove until her hip broke at 93 with no wrecks her entire life.
I wonder if non medicals will be covered by aircraft insurance.

The average American's mental capacity is something you know? You've conclusively proven it?

And proportionately speaking, we are much more dangerous. The biggest thing that is scary going forward is just how much (in general) society has grown to a blame-someone-else-anyone-but-me syndrome. It seems no one likes to take responsibilities these days. It starts with a good family nurturing background and all that is missing a lot more so than it was just a few decades ago.

Most gun related crimes are gang/criminal-to-criminal related so we the public don't really care. The other biggest thing is suicide but as long as the person takes only himself out, we again don't care. Countries like Switzerland have high gun ownership but even proportionately speaking and taking out the gang factor, we are still more dangerous with more gun related fatalities.

Point remains, every average American is a law-abiding citizen until the instant the gun is pointed at someone and the trigger pulled. And no, I don't trust the average American. I'm very careful in the public. I don't escalate anything. If someone mouths off near me, I keep quiet and look away. I want no part in anyone's mental issues these days. Society over time hasn't gotten better, it has gotten worse. Far worse. It seems everyone is on meds or could sure use them.

You won't change my opinion on this subject, and I won't change yours.

If you're so worried about the average person mental capacity in this country, I'll by you the ticket. I'm not trying to change your opinion on this. I'm pointing out the fact that the numbers presented, when actually looked at, not just used to support an agenda, don't work.

Your video is flawed and a right-wing agenda driven video that is taking a shot at the other side. Some of those countries are so small and filled with drug related violence that it skews the data. Stop comparing America to third world countries. Lets compare us to the other first world countries with guns like Switzerland. Then see how we stack up.

Point is, someone here said about other people's driving skills that "I don't care about your freedoms, I care about you not ending mine" and I pointed out that is the same kind of logic the anti-gun people have with the gun owners. So that logic works well against old people, but not against guns apparently.

And yes I own a gun (only one). I'd also say I'm very protective of it and without a doubt - no one else will be able to use it. I'd rank myself higher than average on the topic of responsibility and I attribute that to my parents/upbrining.

You very obviously didn't watch the entire video, or you don't consider Australia, France, Denmark, Germany, and others 1st world countries, . And it's not my video, it's his, and it's statistics. Plain, simple numbers, that one side likes to use to justify for gun control, that he takes and turns them around, showing the real numbers.

I never said I liked the guy, but I see nothing other than facts presented, that he got from his oppositions view.

We can all throw numbers our that support a certain viewpoint.

Id love to get a US Drivers license, but foreign citizens are limited to a temporary license tied to their visa duration.

Is there some kind of federal license that could cover it? If I can't get a Class 3, I should be able to comply with the provisions.
