It's not always know better, it's often knowing more and far reaching in terms of experience. May be right, wrong, or indifferent, or not even matter. Everyone has different experiences, and learning can go both ways. But there is something to be said for someone that has travelled a path farther or wider than I or you or anyone has. Like I said, doesn't make them automatically correct and the lesser experienced or lesser time person incorrect; it's just a wider ranging net of total experience.
For example, I in my experiences flying the A-10 or Hacker having flown the F-15E, both of us having flown combat in the relatively permissive skies of Afghan and Iraq; we're not about to tell a Vietnam Vet who flew F-105s going into downtown Hanoi every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, against the roughest air defense environment in the world at the time, that we know air combat just like he does. He'd laugh in our respective faces. Sure, we're all three considered combat vets, but our experiences are far different from the older gentleman and we wouldn't be able to remotely relate to what he and his cohorts did in their combat experience. So there has to be a mutual respect yes, but I also recognize that I my overall experience isn't to that level in that arena, even though it's far more current experience and more technological. Just different experience.
