Pivotal to the future of your career? You'll retire a United pilot. You are free to believe what you want, but showing zero patience when people refute you based on published financial audits doesn't really help your cause. You can believe whatever you want - it doesn't make your beliefs any more truer.

Guess who paid for that audit?

Take a guess.

BTW, I wonder how quickly a post would be edited, lecture given about how the old men know best as we are youngsters, and time off given on here if you or I called someone a 'goon'.......

I firmly believe these Middle East carriers are state owned enterprises that are creating an uneven playing field. @typhoonpilot has even agreed with me that some are. Of course he doesn't think his former airline is, I disagree with that.

Folks are being naive if they firmly believe these airlines are operating the same way US Carriers are.

Isn't that the fault of our own government and regulations throughout? Regardless of who or which party has been in power over the decades? Question is, who is making money off of holding US airlines back?

As I said, I don't need a lecture or colloquialism.

The BS attacks are flowing everywhere in this thread unfortunately. So, if everyone can stick to discussion and keep the personal attacks out of it, maybe this thread will have some good info flow.

Doesn't matter. We need to look ahead as an industry to fight what's on the horizon, not point fingers on whose to blame behind us.

So I can call others 'goons'?

Careful. The gestapo has come after me just for questioning them before.

That's what I'm saying. What changes need to be made? Because this isn't airlines holding themselves back I wouldn't think. Sounds like they're playing on a different playing field, or being forced to. Gotta ID the problem in order to find the solution. I'm curious what's causing the problem.

If that's the case Mike please point out where I called another user a "goon" or other similar word to describe themselves. I've been able to keep my cool and not make personal verbal attacks even though folks on here see no problem with those entities going after my livelihood.

So where's the moderation of his post?

People are getting too worked up, and the crap is flowing in all ways. To moderate one, I'd have to do so all around. No need for Mutually Assured Destruction. What I have are people doing crap, then reporting/complaining that someone is doing the same thing back. Cease and desist all. It's that easy.

Careful. The gestapo has come after me just for questioning them before.

It's not what you say Todd, it's how you present sometimes. And namecalling the mod staff isn't good technique, for starters.

The thing is they are more interested in internet feelings rather than my livelihood.

I have HUGE issues with that.

I could give a rats ass about feelings. What I do care about is keeping things relatively civil. And your livelihood is just fine in terms of here on JC.......no internet opinion(s) are going to have any effect on that. Just like your viewpoint isn't going to affect someone with a viewpoint counter to that or affect their livelihood. I see how an opinion can bother you or your opinion bother others, but none of that has any effect on anything. It's all ascii characters at the end of the day.

That probably has something to do with the fact that their livelihood is not the same as yours.

Keep educating, though. People need to hear it. If Moak and I can agree on something, you know it's pretty important. :)

You know, Mike, any authority that can't stand being criticized shouldn't be an authority. I was in charge of moderating our union forum at AirTran. I was "called names" nonstop. Did I ever suspend or even reprimand someone for it? Of course not, because I'm not that insecure, nor was it my job to protect myself from criticism.

Again Todd, it's not what you say, but how you (sometimes) say it. Criticism is fine. Being intentionally disrespectful isn't. Living room rules and all. I realize emotions can run high on certain subjects, and people can lose their cool here and there. It happens. We....all of us here.....should strive to not make that acceptable habit. That's all. No one is perfect.

Your questions have already been answered in this thread and others.

Once again, get over your internet feelings and decorum.

I wouldn't invite someone into my living room trying to take my livelihood away.

I was once compared to a murderous dictator because I told people not to advocate for illegal job actions. I would say that was far beyond "intentionally disrespectful" or anything you've seen here. You know what I did? I laughed it off and did absolutely nothing to the jack wagon who said it. Why? Because it doesn't matter, and his free speech is more important than me protecting myself.

In other words, relax. Having your moderating skills questioned, even "disrespectfully," isn't the end of the world. In fact, letting it roll off your back lends you more credibility as an authority figure.

But I'm sure I'll be sanctioned for daring to question the wise oracles again, so I'll probably be seeing everyone again in a few months.

But we are youngsters Todd!

They know better!

It's not always know better, it's often knowing more and far reaching in terms of experience. May be right, wrong, or indifferent, or not even matter. Everyone has different experiences, and learning can go both ways. But there is something to be said for someone that has travelled a path farther or wider than I or you or anyone has. Like I said, doesn't make them automatically correct and the lesser experienced or lesser time person incorrect; it's just a wider ranging net of total experience.

For example, I in my experiences flying the A-10 or Hacker having flown the F-15E, both of us having flown combat in the relatively permissive skies of Afghan and Iraq; we're not about to tell a Vietnam Vet who flew F-105s going into downtown Hanoi every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, against the roughest air defense environment in the world at the time, that we know air combat just like he does. He'd laugh in our respective faces. Sure, we're all three considered combat vets, but our experiences are far different from the older gentleman and we wouldn't be able to remotely relate to what he and his cohorts did in their combat experience. So there has to be a mutual respect yes, but I also recognize that my overall experience isn't to that level in that arena, even though it's far more current experience and more technological. Just different experience.

Again, it's all ascii characters at the end of the day. Typhoon has no effect on your career, anymore than you have any effect on his. I know you two vehemently disagree, but neither one of you affects the other.

Stop lecturing.

Your missing the point about how others with a lot more experience than me are of the same opinion as mine with airlines such as Emirates. These are people I usually don't agree with as well. @ATN_Pilot gets what I am saying here.

Do you get that point?
