Cold weather King Air ops

Don't they have those big gas powered heaters at those northern airports? Throw one of those on each engine and you'll be warmed up in no time. Bonus points if you use one to heat the cabin up too.

I fly 200's in MB and across the Arctic, but we carry engine tents with tanis heaters for the engines for the colder temps (Just plugs right into the nacelle) . The biggest hangar on the field is Calm Air, give them a call they could have some room (204) 778-6471 if not other hangars on the field are with Fast Air (unlikely as they are running medevacs and have a small hangar for their only machine) and Creeway Aviation (204) 778-7404 and Wings Over Kississing 204-677-1673.

Awesome! Thank you so much. We haven't found any places yet.

Yeah we do, 7 + 1 enroute only seat, G1000 avionics, I was confused what that has to do with engines lol

Part 91? I'm not sure if the G1000 alone satisfies the TSO. The King air I used to fly with TAWS when you started the avionics, after a few seconds would announce "TAWS system test okay."

Just an update if anyone finds this through a search in the future. We went with Aerotherm Alien heaters and a space heater plugged in through the storm window. Will be trying it in a few days but the temps are now up to -20°C. so hopefully it won't be too hard getting the engine up to 0° for takeoff.

I'll let you all know if my pansy hands can take that cold and we get it to work!

You'll be fine. -20C isn't too bad.

Well it worked. -30 with a good wind engines were -6 with the heaters. Probably better if we had blankets. Battery worked well and gave us 15%.

My toes on the other hand didn't enjoy it. Now to go home and get in the hot tub!

Damn straight!!! There are talks of us getting the scimitar props on it as well... at that point it may even outrun our Hawker! :-D

Not sure... But the performance gains are incredible! We operate regularly out of a fairly short strip, so any help is worthwhile.
