Shoot I had to ask for the published hold at BKA the other day...they told me to hold on my inbound awaiting approach clearance and I was like WTF?Way more often than getting a published hold.
I don't understand. Were you WTF'ing because you were given a hold or because you were given a simple non-published one?Shoot I had to ask for the published hold at BKA the other day...they told me to hold on my inbound awaiting approach clearance and I was like WTF?
The only hold I've been given in more than 20 years (but a lot less hours than you) was a non-published hold. It was to KSAF which is below ABQ radar and I was instructed to hold to wait for departing traffic to clear the area. It was a simple VOR hold on the airway I was already inbound on.In 3k plus hours of part 91 flying I have never been issued a non published hold
Because I was given a non published one at the IAF which has a holding pattern procedure turn. Had I executed their instructions, I would have had to hold unpublished until given approach clearance, then do the entry of the published hold to get set up for final, then shoot the approach. It would have been stupid. As it was I requested the published hold, received it, but slowed down enough that I was given approach clearance just prior to the VOR.I don't understand. That makes sense. Context is everything. I thought it was a situation of, say, holding on the R180 at a IAF/FAF with 360° FAC, not holding on the R300 at the same VOR.Because I was given a non published one at the IAF which has a holding pattern procedure turn. Yeah, my first post was not clear. That makes sense. Context is everything. I thought it was a situation of, say, holding on the R180 at a IAF/FAF with 360° FAC, not holding on the R300 at the same VOR.
