Next 48 Hours Critical in Denying NAI and their application

Do you read anything people say or do you see one or two words and piece together an argument? I said I was airing personal frustration with the process. Nowhere did I say I was actively trying to change the process. I do think though, that when you give money (from a PAC) you can attach a note to it as well. I know, that's illegal and I'm public enemy number one. This is my opinion only!

You are changing your tune drastically here once I pointed out what you want to do is illegal.

Honestly, it was called the E-180 by many early pilots in type. I'm not one of those guys with time in type, so maybe you'll discount my recollection, but I remember it clear as day.

My question is this, what is to prevent Emirates from contracting with a regional like SkyWest to feed their non-stop flights to Dubai using say EMB-195 or such. I'm sure Skywest has looked at it. Is it prohibited in their contract?

Nothing to prohibit it. They would have to set up a contract to do it as foreign ownership laws would prohibit them from buying a regional to provide feed outright (like they just did in Slovenia or some place like that?).

Actually, your right and wrong. While not specifically prohibiting Skywest from operating E195s for Emirates, doing so would place them in violation of the Delta PWA section 1. As such, they would not be allowed to operate as a DCI carrier if they went that route. The question is, which would pay them more money? Continue to fly for Delta, or walk away from DCI, and become a regional feed for Emirates.

Confirmed today, NLH crews are under the Singapore contract.

You're right, at least according to this ALPA document:

http://www.alpa.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=e7sZrwoxUCY=&tabid=8231&mid=24026

However in the first few sentences it states that Norway gave NAS/NLH until December of 2013 to obtain Norwegian work permits which would bring them under Norwegian law. As a response, NAS stated they would seek to establish a carrier in a different country.

So, from what I gather we likely should have had similar concern over NLH initially but because Norway attempted to bring NLH labor under Norwegian law, NAS announced that what would later become NAI would take over the international flying. Therefore NAI became the focal point of this whole thing. Pages 26-29 are of particular interest, as it is the declaration of Jack Netskar, the International Director of the Norwegian Air Line Pilots Association.

There is a reason they are pursuing the flag-of-convenience model with NAI. It seems NAS has some questionable labor practices in general, not just NAI.

I could see a smaller but more lucrative deal for a regional in the states under Emirates. Perhaps they'd be less inclined to put the screws to the regionals quite as hard in order to maintain a high level product and ensure it's new model's success.

I despise ALPA and the Deny NAI campaign. Anybody out there who wants to get started with some talking points against #denyNAI and ALPA should read the articles below and, of course, urge your rep to vote no. Airline pilots are probably the biggest group of uninformed, unthinking sheep-people I've ever met. Don't let their cronies influence Washington. There has been absolutely no intelligent discussion of this issue by ALPA, only on-message, repetitive propaganda.

Let me make sure I'm understanding you correctly;
Two letters from a college professor taped to the stalls of the internet bathroom is acceptable material for you to present to make your point?

I'm going to need you to go back and show your work, please. Thanks.

Not proving a point, just putting something out there as a jumping off point for lurkers who want to learn something. Cafe Hayek is a highly trafficked site, and Don Boudreaux is quite a name as far as celebrity economists go. From there, one might look up Russ Roberts, Mike Munger, Richard Epstein, or check out orgs like the Brookings Institution, Hoover Institution, or the Library of Economics and Liberty. Get out there, fire up your Googles and learn why ALPA sucks.

"For a good time call..." - that's how my post would start on a bathroom stall.

Dear Lord! Celebrity economists? Don't know about you guys, but if I wanted to be taken seriously, I don't think I is want to be classified in the same societal group as the Kardashians.

You can use the word "well-known" if you want, but look at Paul Krugman or the Freakonomics guys, could they not be called celebrity Economists? It's how they're commonly referred to.

In fact I think as Pilots if people know who you are, you're probably doing it wrong...or at least had to do something that made your day more exciting than most of us would like.

I'm going go
An amendment is in play during the next 48 hours (June 9–10) in the U.S. House of Representatives to deny NAI! The House will vote on an amendment by Reps. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) and Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) during consideration of the FY 2015 Transportation Appropriations bill (H.R. 4745) to prohibit funding for a foreign air carrier permit that does not follow U.S. law and the U.S.-EU Open Skies Agreement, which specifically prohibits forum shopping for cheap labor. Debate starts at 2:00 p.m. Monday, with votes beginning at 6:30 p.m., so the time to act is now! Call your representative through the Capitol switchboard 202-224-3121 and urge him or her to vote YES on the Westmoreland-DeFazio Amendment to Deny NAI! Go to ALPA.org to take action to send an e-mail message to your representative.

A bit of cathartic doggerel...brought to you by Beer.

I’m gonna start Air PB&J
Gonna register in Ghana
Gonna fly all night and day!

Air PB&J, Air PB&J
You think you need a pilot?
POI says, “No way!”

Regulations and Inspections?
Ghana gots ‘em all right here.
But the last time our planes saw maintenance
Was sometime last year.

Meet our famous pilots!
Over here’s Badu and Clayton.
Badu made the newspaper
When he bent some stuff in Dayton.

They ask us, “where the heck is Ghana?”
We don’t put questions in our way.
What matters ’s where we’re flying
And that’s all Newark to LA!

When they ask us what our name means,
We tell ‘em, “Step back, Jack.”
We are a global pedigree
An y’all can check the facts.

The “P” is for Port Erin
It’s on the Isle of Man
And when it comes to stashing cash
It steps all over the Cayman.

Some say the P’s for pretend
To dis our awesome operation
But if you can stand the stress and fear
You’ll find no cheaper vacation.

The B of course is Boeing,
It’s the brand name of our plane.
That all our parts are counterfeit
Presents no need for shame.

Others riff the B’s for Bogus
In reference to our parts
But the graffiti on the sales van
Is quite a work of art.

The J refers to Jealous
It’s what the other airlines get
When looking at our bottom line
Of disaster and huge Net.

But we like to keep it simple
It’s how we run our show.
PBJ sandwiches are just doggy treats
To make our pilots go.

POI’s the cousin
Of the warlord in the Junta
When sketchy ops up for debate
POI says, “Why wouldn’t ya?”

So now we got our gates and routes
Innovation’s here to stay
FAA requires pilots in our planes
POI in Accra says, “No way!”
