Simmer down on the 180 talk unless you know what you are talking about.

Didn't the APUs have to be run on them all night long at one point in time so they could leave the next morning? You were still in college, but I got to see the AquaFresh XJT E-145s flying for JetBlue when they were first bringing the E-190s onboard because of 'issues' that included doing 180s back to the gate.

So I know what I am talking about...

It's called the 180 because during the first few computer loads, the electric(hydraulic) P-BIT would give an EICAS message of "flight control no dispatch" thus grounding it. The solution was a complete shutdown and restart... At the gate.
 
If ANF is all night flying and the same as a stand up/CDO/ all nighter then yes. It's all I do, just like at pinnacle and colgan when I held them.

Oh I was talking about what we call ANF here. Like from the West Coast to the East Coast 'red-eye'.

I don't speak what y'all call it.

Then why did JetBlue have to run the APU on those things 24/7? Why did they have XJT flying E-180 routes when they were first showing up on property?

Because Embraer builds a very crappy product on it's initial deliveries. The Launch Customers for various airplanes end up re-engineering them in the field for years afterwards. Remember, COEX/XJT had the most qualified single-engine jet pilots in the world. They were averaging 1 uncommanded engine shutdown a week when the 145s first arrived. The joke for years was "EMB-145s, Built in Brazil, Engineered in Houston."

There were serious electrical problems with 190s when JetBlue first got them and they had to have them re-engineered in BNA for a few weeks to fix them. The CEO of ExpressJet was quote as saying he'll never be another Embraer Launch Customer again.

You should be ok, though. After 45 years, I think Boeing has worked out the kinks on the 737.

I don't know b6's issues off hand, however it sounds like the same problem we had (before my time @Polar742 might know better ). If they needed to run the APU, it was because they most likely could not get ground power, thus running into PBIT> "flight control no dispatch" EICAS message.

The more I think about the systems the more I'm forgetting (I'm not getting paid to know E170 systems for the time being). The hydraulic PBIT was what did our birds in (same systems as the 190). Once we start the second engine, and put the hydraulics 1&2 into auto, is when the hydraulic BITest is started. Hydraulics and Electrics both have a 50hour countdown timer. Hydraulics rarely go below 40, however I've seen the electrics dip into the 20hour range, which means the aircraft has been powered for 20+ hours.

There are a few gremlins still lurking. The airplane gets confused and you lose brakes/steering if you start the APU as you shutdown the engine.

I'd be more than happy to learn the 737 nuances, I'm sure there are quarks in that old bird too.
