U.S. Air Aborted Takeoff PHL

I think it's a time distance thing. They, cab controllers, know for the most part how long it takes an aircraft to start rolling from the hold short line. That mixed with an aircraft hurling itself down the runway gives enough separation. Now I could be totally wrong so don't take this as law.

I think technically the other aircraft has to be air born and, for Cat III airplanes there needs to be a minimum of 6000 feet of separation. That said, (like you said) it's pretty common to get a takeoff clearance when the other get is still prior to rotation.

One of my buddies is a captain for airways. Said that the blown tire is a cover story. MX told him that the pilots over rotated, panicked when the tail struck and slammed the nose back on the runway, collapsing the nose gear. Early reports are that it's going to be scrapped.

Really? That's an issue on the 321, but you've got to be WAY over rotated on the 320 to get anywhere near a tail strike.

I'm guessing you're commuting on an airways flight? Did you tell the crew when you asked for a ride how this incident was serving as entertainment for you?

Slow your roll, Jethro.

An RTO isn't entertainment.

The culture we live in today when people claim they're running for their lives, but have plenty of time to stop and pose for a "selfie" as there are CFR trucks swerving around Instagramming and Twittering passengers is both Darwinist and delicious.

If it's the picture from the in flight magazine, that's a share from another person on Facebook. Please google that person and issue them the same admonition. And no, I'm sitting right here on my butt in JCWHQ and not commuting on a USAirways flight. Feel free to inquire, where the person obtained the picture, I have no clue.

Quite specifically, what gave you the impression that it was anything other than I stated above and be completely clear, @learhawkerbe400

Your A320 touch and go in Oakland after the pass under the bridge. "what was that noise?" On a more related note though, I'm surprised at how little media coverage this incident is getting even with the stretched hype of the search for 370.
Aaaaah! Good times!
