Malaysia Airlines 777 missing

2 stolen passports on one flight that vanishes upon reaching cruising altitude? Doesn't look good...

Too early to tell if petty theft makes a crime of this missing aircraft; although the potential for it being more than just a coincidence that two separate passports were used is indeed investigation-worthy.

Who knows......may possibly have another Air India 182. At least I believe this would make this accident 2nd to Air India in terms fatalities of an airliner over water, if that's what it turns out to be, with AF447 being 3rd in numbers.

Remember, human trafficking is very prevalent in that part of the world.

Agree, very much so there. Hence why it's definitely investigation-worthy. I'm just cautioning against people going after the "shiny object" too early before anything is even known.

As Professor Funk said, "Beware of the schmokin' hole"

It is far to early to even begin to make any sort of educated "guess" as to the possibilities of what may have happened on this flight. As to the passport issues, passports in certain parts of the world are often lost/stolen and used/forged by others for a variety of reasons. This is rather common, believe it or not. Two on one flight interesting, but may mean nothing. As for oil slicks, does not mean the slicks are from an aircraft. There are just a plethora of various types vessels in this area almost 24/7. Remember in the early days of searching for AF447, an oil slick was also spotted which turned out had come from a ship. Vessels will have to be sent to the slick to verify exactly what type of components/material it is. Nothing at this moment can be assumed and there is little in the way of actual facts. Real determinations of any sort, are not going to happen quickly.

I agree. It may mean nothing, but it could also be a piece of the puzzle and a big one at that. I'm not making any guesses just yet but I thought it strange to have 2 stolen passports being used on one flight. I am not aware just how prevalent passport theft is in that area of the world VS how coincidental this is.

There are many parts of the world with sketchy radar coverage.

Hell, even flying into Moscow sometimes they're asking for position reports as they have you conduct a full approach into Sheremtyevo.

Did anyone make note of this?

UPDATE, March 8, 8:53 a.m. ET: Authorities claim to have spotted a 12-mile long oil slick between Malaysia and Vietnam, perhaps the first authoritative sign that Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 did indeed crash into the sea. “An AN26 aircraft of the Vietnam Navy has discovered an oil slick about 20 kilometers in the search area, which is suspected of being a crashed Boeing aircraft — we have announced that information to Singapore and Malaysia and we continue the search," Lai Xuan Thanh of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said, according to The New York Times.

I don't know if it is a reliable source, but thought I'd might make a contrubution to solving a bigger puzzle.

Yes, in my post above. If it is an oil slick or a natural occurring marine phenomena, either way, vessels will still have to proceed to the area and test the substance to determine if it is from an aircraft or a vessel of some sort. I doubt that anything will be "solved" for a very long time.

This B777 had a ground collision with another aircraft and needed a repair of the wing (wingtip area). Aileron affected? Who knows? It's too early to say terrorism or any other cause. Remember, China Airlines flight 611 structurally failed from a stress crack due to an improper repair from years ago. So it could be anything. Too early to speculate.
