The Concept of Jetcareers

I used to be like this:

someone_is_wrong_on_the_internet1.jpg

Then realized that it does no good. Thanks to this site, I've met some great people, learned how NOT to act with regards to aviation, gotten some great advice, and my first flying job. If you're not trying to contribute to make JC the best in can be, you're doing it wrong.

A few bullet points from things I've noticed here in the last few years.

  • There is some great knowledge here
  • For the most part people are willing to help others
  • Opinions vary greatly on all topics
  • Pissing contests seem to start over nonsense
  • If your opinions are different than someone else's, you had probably be better off to keep it to yourself(as of late)
Seems like lately, there is a lot of "disagreements" the devolve into arguments. And if you try to call someone to the table, a dog pile ensues. I've tried to put my finger on as to why, and the only explanation I can come up with is stress. There is a lot of factors in the industry right now that have people worried. I've had my fair share of them, just about everyone has. Hell, a lot of people think I'm an •. And that's fine. But I'd rather be around a bunch of guys who stick to their guns, because I feel that that's an admirable character trait. I have a lot of respect for the guys and gals here. I've been in aviation my whole life nearly. With that said, I know I still have a lot to learn.

This site has changed a lot since I went to my first Vegas event. The core group is the same for the most part. But as with what I read in Dergs initial post, I think it's come time for some of us (and I'm pointing the finger at myself here to), to step away from the keyboard and relax a little.

to step away from the keyboard and relax a little.

Wait, I missed something. Please explain? :)

I forgot to mention the step away from the keyboard in my post. It seems sometimes we get caught up at BEING RIGHT ON THE INTERWEBS. Which, regardless of opinions or fact their will be always someone who disagrees. And letting them get the best of you by freaking out online is just silly. We all get sucked into that, but being able to walk away for a bit and come back relaxed is very effective. especially in conveying something important.

Everyone needs some outlet and a reason to feel that they belong to something outside of work or even family life. Another member referred me to the site and most of the time, I just sit back and read. Sometimes, I offer my pointless inputs :) Most of the time, I like to learn more about the industry and ALPA. There are a ton of people on here with so much valuable experience in both that are willing to offer their knowledge, experience and wisdom to the likes of me. Yes we might not agree on everything but that's what makes the world go round and what makes each of us unique.

The time that you can actually help someone move on or make a choice based on your experience, I feel is or would be very rewarding. I haven't been able to do that yet for anyone but am willing. I feel that this place has given me more insight into our careers than anything else. Thank you @Derg for providing us with an outlet or in my case an inlet of information and to be able to share it with others.

I'm one of the more quiet ones on here, however I felt the need to post on this. This is a great website full of people who are willing to help you. I've gotten 2 of my 3 aviation jobs because of this website and an interview at another thanks to an awesome guy who tried hard to get me the interview, and even though that one didn't pan out he was still very willing to help. On the flip side I've walked a number of resumes into my old carrier and even though those didn't always work out, I'm more than willing to do it at my new airline too. I think that as a whole it's important to help and NEVER forget where you came from, and I think that helping people try to move on is a good way to stay grounded.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Thank you, Doug! This site rocks and has put many people in contact, which would of never connected without your doing.

I, too, thoroughly enjoy this site. Of all the aviation websites out there, this is the ONLY one that doesn't get my blood pressure up. Plus, not every thread I read here devolves into an East/West thread (with the same 3-5 posters causing the devolution). Thanks, @Derg!

While it may not be beneficial to me for employment, this website has been great to learn lots of things for my profession, and hopefully on rare occasions help others understand theirs better.

Honestly, I've been on many web forums, this one has the best community I've seen.

The Canadian version of this site, I left, because it was constantly about tearing everyone to pieces... unfortunate.

There are/were similar ATC only sites globally

It was essentially 3600 threads of

"I work in the busiest control unit because..."
