Actually, if you would calm down and read what I'm saying, you would see that I'm suggesting no such thing. I'm suggesting that you CALL THEM and get it sorted out. If you sent me a bill as you describe, I would call you and ask about it. I wouldn't simply ignore it and go off on a holier than thou rant about how evil you are to be sending me a bill.

You are on inactive status automatically. What is optional is inactive participant status, which still gives you the magazine, access to the web site, access to the insurance products, etc. It comes with a small fee.

The emotions you see here have nothing to do with the bill. Go back and search the posts of these guys from long before they left and got a bill. You'll see that they have been hostile towards ALPA before they ever left their ALPA carrier. This is just the latest excuse for their irrational hatred of the organization that defends their profession.

That's ok, some of us saw it. At least that clears up your atrocious attitude about attendance policies. It would have made that thread a lot easier if you just would have admitted that you're anti-union.

And to be more precise, I'm not anti-union. I'm anti-union thug. They just tend to go together.

My position on ALPA is not a secret. I've been pretty open about it my whole career. But, I am a yes vote at JetBlue, primarily due to our lack of a third party signatory to the ASAP MOU, and a lack of a true Safety Committee. If there were a way to get those things without the BS associated, I would vote that way. Unfortunately you get the good with the bad. I just hope the good outweighs the bad in our case.

That's not fair at all! When was the last time someone came to your house and threatened you and your family? When did you walk out to the parking lot and see your windshield broken and your tires slashed? There are many many people on here who work tirelessly for the betterment of the professional and are heavily involved with the union. You might not agree with unions or their premise but they have helped you in more ways you can think during your carrer. Just because you don't agree with the tactics of few does not me you can belittle the hard work of many.
 
We do need union thugs irl just to remind these guys what one is. Then they need to go away again into the ether.

Of course after the two Spirit real life scabs I assumed pilots would go easier on that word, but it hasn't happened. Maybe it's more evidence we've all got it too easy.

Prior to my aviation career I worked for a non-union flooring company. There was a union challenge that was defeated, and my tires WERE slashed. So yeah. I have a bad taste for unions.

In the airlines tires may not be slashed, but the same mentality is there. The same psychological manipulations are there. The same anti-intellectualism is there. If you think for yourself, that's seen as a threat. I dislike it. Strongly.
 
And I dislike your attitude just as strongly. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, and I'll hope that people like you are in a tiny minority at your airline.

See my above posts. I'm very familiar with actual thugs. I just don't draw a distinction between breaking windows and being a psychological bully.

I'm okay with that. I want the union vote to pass. I just hope the hard core unionistas are in the minority.

I don't dislike you Todd. You seem reasonable.
 
Maybe the ALPA guys should be wondering why someone that was VERY pro-ALPA (me) has done a complete 180. Here's a hint, management has zilch to do with it. I didn't just wake up and decide I didn't like ALPA anymore. A long list of things led me to this point. However, the pro-ALPA guys don't like talking about that. They'd rather point fingers elsewhere and declare us deadbeats or that we're dragging the industry down before they'd admit ALPA needs to change some fundamentals in how they treat people.

A couple of decades earlier but our union was formed around guys with bad ALPA taste in their mouth. Back then, freight got no respect. Funny how things change. ALPA will be the predominate union for pilots, good or bad. Somebody needs to get in charge of it and reach out to the disgruntled masses or things are gonna get ugly for them.

I think independent is the way to go.
