Horizon Airlines Hiring

What can an FO expect to make on year one?

According to airlinepilotcentral, first year FO pay is about $27k, going up to about $36k 2nd year. With the current upgrade time of ~13 years, FO pay stops increasing at year 8, which is about $42k,

Which is more than Commutair Captain pay

The butt hurt is strong with this one.
Hey, it's very close I'll grant you, but a blanket statement that QX FOs make more than C5 Capts is inaccurate, unless you're comparing a C5 guy that sits reserve to a QX guy on a line and/or flies a lot.

The fact that it's that close is pretty ridiculous though. If I were younger I'd consider making the switch and just hanging out in ANC for a very long time.

You are still comparing a Q200 to a Q400. Not exactly apples to apples.

Seeing as how those are former QX bird's...it kind of, is...

Either way, at QX...you can actually afford to have your own apt on first year pay (and yes, that includes having food money/student loan money/going and having a beer money). The upgrade time is about to drop by 2/3 years...seeing how we didn't hire anyone for a while after 9/11.

If it suits you to live/work in the PacNW or Alaska, then apply. If you want a quick upgrade, it's not the place for you.

Just to clarify a couple of points made here, with the exception of maybe 1 person, every Captain is at least on 3rd year pay (which you get at your completion of your 2nd year if you upgrade) which is $46 Q200 and $51 Q300 as of December 1. The Q200 and Q300 do not have separate lists. There is no seniority battle to fly the 300 vs. the 200.

Are the payrates crap? Sure, just like the rest of our contract. Here's to hoping that when negotiations start up soon for our next (2nd) contract, things will get better and the shenanigans that occurred during the negotiation of our first contract won't take place. However with the past few TA's that ALPA has negotiated with regional carriers (PSA, XJT, etc.) I'm not exactly setting my expectations high.

I was able to move out of my parents house, get my own apartment and do all of the things that you mentioned above on C5 1st year pay. Let's not forget that $27k first year FO pay is not exactly stellar either.

A regional is a regional is a regional. They all suck ass.

I heard the other day that they(Horizon) will be taking over a bunch of Alaska's short hop routes around southeast Alaska... I don't know how that's gonna work out for em, what with the weather and terrain around here. Maybe theyll outfit those Q400s with the HUD and get the special RNP approach authorization.
