Continental side hiring

There is a lot of overtime. Without getting into to much detail about how it is awarded all I can say is that if you want to work there is work to be done. Everything is awarded really well and you do not have to be senior to get extra shifts

Yesterday I worked my 35th shift of OT for 2013 and by the end of the week I will be at 38.

Thought both were for CO side and Bob said AD work 7 to 5.

This is true the AD desk is on the Legacy CO side - I don't think the UA side has an equivalent position. People usually are there 1-2 years, it just varies depending upon when new dispatch positions open up...I think everyone is there at least a year although there may be exceptions to that if there's a lot of hiring. If you don't have any experience or very limited experience, it's a good place to start. Assistant pay I believe is 78% of regular dispatcher pay.

Let me ask a question of different nature, how's the work atmosphere? I'm currently at a regional and coming from the business aviation side I love the fact we can dress down once in a while and atmosphere at the SOC is pretty loose most of the time. What's it like after the merger, when you have two airlines (technically) run out of the same SOC?

6-2 and 2-10 and 10-6. There are also some 3am and 4am starts along with the noon starts. Assistant Dispatch works 7-5. There are also some 9/10 hour shifts in the mix. The s-UA side works different hours so who knows what the future will hold.
whats the shifts like for a assistant dispatcher? whats the pay scale?

The dress code is quite casual (jeans and polo shirts are the norm) and everyone gets along pretty well between the two groups. Everyone would like to have a unified contract but that will happen eventually.

Is there any time frame as to when they will start calling/emailing people for interviews? Are they group interviews or one on one interviews?

I would imagine it will happen pretty much as soon as the job posting is pulled from the website. When I hear for sure I will put it up on here.

Wow, hats off to the HR department that has to read 700 applications to define a short list.

Good luck to everyone! 1 out of 700 low odds lol
They will be making decisions I'm assuming by next week right?

They won't. Their taleo resume software rule out a good percentage of resumes right off the bat.

Hmm. Is that dependent on whether or not we submitted a "plain text" resume? I hope not b/c I only submitted my resume and cover letter as an attachment!

700 applications for 11 jobs oh my....

So what you are saying is I have a (1.7%) chance!

Well, a lot of applications come in for the assistant position evidently from people with no airline or dispatch experience, since none is formally required. So, if you have a license, dispatch experience, and some education...you're well ahead of the the pack. Or if you have no experience but you're applying for the assistant position, you should be ahead of the pack there also. All this being said, I have no idea how they select people or how many will get called for interviews (for either assistant or regular dispatcher.)

I did this the last time UA had an opening and I also had internal recs and never got a call. So when I put in for AA recently, I did cut and paste the resume in the plain text part, but also attached a second copy at the end. Most job hunting books recommend you do this, and I think you should to, because if you don't and Taleo is doing a key word search, even though you may have those qualifications, if they are buried in an attached word document, they wont be found by the software and you may not get called.
