SWA Landing gear collapse at LGA

The Captain took the controls from the FO at less than 400 feet. Also (I believe) the FO was an AirTran transition and the Captain was chastising the FO and wanted to 'show him' how they 'do things' at SWA.

Furthermore the Captain was the number one avoided Captain to fly with at Southwest.

Wow. That's going to be an interesting read.

Was it related to what she was saying about the company? Or just in general?

No clue. Just that they were very displeased and didn't want to made public. Given what you said might be in there, that makes sense.

As much as I love that narrative, it isn't true. The FO was "real" SWA. The captain was a high bid avoidance captain, but not the highest in the system.

From what I've experienced, it typically comes down to insecurity - with personality or flying skills (and often both).

Exactly correct.

Sometime this summer I flew with a guy like that. Was taking off out of one of our hubs with a 10 kt crosswind. I was holding the proper correction, wings were level, no side loading. He says "I'm gonna need more crosswind correction." Not the place to argue, so I put in a little more.

He's got the next two legs. Both are crosswind takeoffs. He has the ailerons in the wrong damn direction.

Oh yeah. Very familiar story. When faced with these idiots, I just keep reminding myself that I'm learning what no to do when it's my turn in the left seat.

Yeah. I do that when I'm not imagining picking up my flight case and bludgeoning them with it.

I don't always get captainitis. But when I do, its either on payday or when I'm flying with one of those guys.

There's always a straight story, to keep the rumor mill in check.

Not much. I'll be out in Dall-ass for the arbitration next week, so I'll see what I can dig up. I'm sure the SWAPA boys would love to talk to me to give all the details. We're such good buddies. :)

Put on your leather jacket and infiltrate their ranks, 007 style.

I just flew a 2 day with a guy that felt the need to tell me when to switch to ground/tower/ramp, what to say to ATC when queried about our indicated airspeed ("Tell them we're going 290 kts"), etc. That kind of stuff turns what could be a fun trip into complete hell. I've been flying for 10 years and 4,000 hours... Pretty sure I can read the airspeed indicator by now.

Most guys and girls I fly with are great, but I just flew 2 back to back trips with guys line this!! So glad I'm starting a vacation this week. Unfortunately not everybody I fly with is a well balanced person (like @Lee D!).

Seriously...are you me? I know exactly how you feel.

Except for vacation unfortunately :-(
