It's really easy. Just know exactly what you want, be nice, keep comms short and clear, listen for a minute before keying mike and have plan/route B if clearance denied. Out ATC are the best of the best and they could sniff a novice from first contact.Learn words WILCO and COPY because you can not read back all that block of info they fire at you.
Make sure you have all your on course headings handy. If you say standby and start punching buttons to get your heading they may send you their way

Unfortunately, there is no code word that means, "hey, I'm a fellow controller, let me do what i want"so the real solution to get a good clearance is to kidnap an ATC, take them flying and then make them negotiate their own release on the radio?![]()

Today I went to Martha's Vineyard for breakfast and not a single propeller soul down low. Kennedy guy was super nice I enjoyed his airspace at 1400'![]()

I don't know. In a week I am out for a looong trip to Wild West. CO UT AZ NM NV CA then leasurely back. Need to burn those "use or lose" leftover vacation days.
