The flip side of course is that just because you have all your ducks in a row, there is no guarantee you'll get a nod. Like Kellwolf, I attended the Open House at Blue. I had 4 LORs attached to my application. I had the required mins plus a whole lot more. I never heard a peep. Same story at SouthernJets (when they were actually still hiring). I had LORs attached. I went to two career fairs and shook hands with the dudes doing the hiring and passed across hard copies of my resume. Nada. Over at Virgin I had two fleet standards captains, a chief pilot and three line pilots walking my stuff in and it took THREE YEARS to get an interview (which I didn't make it through anyways!)
I'm not bitter about any of that. It's the way the game goes and I know I'll escape Regional Hell (tm) some day. I just want to point out that even if you network the hell out of a job, keep your app updated as possible and keep everything ready to go for the minute you get called, it may still not happen. But that sure as hell shouldn't stop anybody from keeping on trying.
