For the Teenagers on here.......

It seems like we get a spike of teenagers on here during the summer months. Makes sense as school is out and you come on here with questions about pursuing your dream of being a pilot. Appreciate your postings here on JC.

Anywho...

ENJOY THE JOURNEY. I understand one wants to get all their ratings as soon as possible to start building time, but be careful. I now know of two 18 year olds who failed their CFI Ride multiple times while taking it. Who knows how the FAA or a DPE might look at a 18 year old taking a CFI check ride, but it might be an additional hurdle to get over.

Just some food for thought.

I'm almost 19 and just now working on my instrument... now I just feel way behind :(. Kidding, hopefully get it done before college starts though.

Good post. I wish I would have enjoyed my flight trainning more. It has been written after written, checkride after checkride for the past year and a half now.

Goal is Majors?

Wouldn't mind... Really, rather work my way into a corporate outfit where I can run the maintenance and fly.

I know I'm behind from an hours standpoint. However, I bring over 5,000 hours of Flight Engineer and 20 years of aviation maintenance experience. And I've held my FAA FEX license for about a year and a half. Plus all the checkrides and evaluations I've gone through over the years relieve a lot of the anxiousness of future FAA checks.

Realistically, I look at my hours as the min to get a resume in. I think I bring a LOT of experience that a 23-25 year old fresh ATP pilot won't have.

Man I can't even imagine being a CFI at 18! Im 21 and just got all my CFI tickets this last spring and started teaching. And lemme tell ya at my age I have to convince my students through my instruction that I know what I'm talking about. Of course instructing air force officers who are all older than you only intimidates me more. But it definitely keeps me on my toes, and makes me work harder at preparing lessons.

Just get it all done ASAP while chicks are still impressed that you're a pilot. That way, when you're making just slightly more than a burger flipper at Mickey-D's you can still kick it with the parentals rent free, go out and party all the time and live the dream!

An teenager year old should be having a good time, not wasting time on jetcareers!!! Go party, enjoy life. Want to fly? Fly military, it's free...in a monetary way.

Add me to that list Seggy. The Feds double busted me on some real BS.

The day I turned 19 was my CFI check ride first attempt.

I can't agree with this post more. I'm one year out of college and while my professional career is slowly taking off, I have a ton of amazing memories from college and summers here. A couple of my friends are now air ambulance and citation pilots (jealous) however they were the ones in their dorm room on a Friday night with their face buried in their far/aim. Not saying this is bad but I feel they missed out on a lot of opportunities for college memories. Or maybe this is just a way that makes me feel better that I don't have a real job yet :D

Believe me I'm not planning on missing out on the college experience at all, I'm already getting started with it ;) I'm doing the flight training stuff on the side, it's by no means detracting from having a good time.

As an 18 year old with a CFI ride on Wednesday, that doesn't make me feel too well... Gonna give it my damn best, have spent a large chunk of time and change on this. May the FSDO be non discriminatory on my soul.

I was pushed around in mine, if you don't like how the examiner is treating you, discontinue, and speak with the head guy there. I should have done this, but I was young and scared crap-less of the feds. Long story short he told me anyone could do the ride open book, and mine would not be.

It's going to be hard to convience people I'm a good CFI. Everything is working against me, I have a baby face and look 15 :eek2:

What a crock of poo. I feel very prepared for it, I'm comfortable with the material. My instructor and Examiner are both good friends and he says he's a very practical, fair guy. Taking it at the DSM FSDO
