Go one their website. They have rubber soled shoes now. Also if you ever send your shoes back for recrafting you can have a representative call you when they receive the shoes to change the sole.
 
Shoes are one of those things where paying for some quality is a GOOD investment. Like I used to tell my new hires, if you go to Wal-Mart and buy a $15 pair of black shoes, they're going to fall apart in a few months and hurt like hell in the process. Go get a GOOD pair of shoes, spend some money and they'll last a LOT longer (saving money in the long run) and be so much more comfortable to boot.

My feet are flat. Not just flat, I mean FLAT. So wearing cheap shoes is right out for me anyway. I found a pair of Adrienne Vitadinni heels at Marshall's one day for $70. Full retail for those would have been about $300. I grabbed them off the rack the second I saw them... this was 1998, I still have those uniform shoes and they are the most comfortable pair of heels I've ever worn in my life. Rockports make decent flats that will hold together well, are comfortable and aren't all that expensive.

There's nothing metro about this! We're talking classic gentleman's attire...no black suits or any of that nonsense. ;)
 
It's interesting, not all companies are the norm (navy, white, red tie). We all agree the older, conservative companies (Delta, etc) like the the previously stated attire. I've had friends interview at Virgin and jetBlue with something more progressive and trendy. My buddy said Virgin told him "business casual" - he went with a button down over a nice sweater, tie and wore slacks. I could see companies like jetBlue liking a more traditional, fresh, young look, a la "less stuffy."

Like someone said above, I think it's important to have a good idea of what the airline prefers.
 
What? Don't you read JC? There's a Pilot Shortage Right Around The Corner. How do you dress? In your PJs, cause they'll be knocking at YOUR door with a wad of cash in hand.

I make fun of you as you have had your UNIFORM tailored. It is not like you are working at Pan Am in the 1960s.

And my wife thinks I am hot in my company supplied uniform so that is all that matters.

I have expensive clothing tastes outside of my uniform. You are out of line with your statement.

Heck yes! I not only have my uniform tailored and pressed, I won't go out the door without perfect creases in my sleeves! Starch is a pilots best friend ;)

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. In fact, not just having the uniform tailored, but actually having a custom suit maker make one from scratch. I just can't stand this polyester crap anymore.

Awesome. I'll definitely give you a shout when I'm ready. Currently on a diet and losing about 2 lbs a week, so I'll need to wait until after I've lost the weight before I drop the cash on a custom uniform.

LOL. I understand in YOUR shoes, soon-to-be SWA, you'd rather be shot. But for us regional "losers" it's quite a step up. And considering that only VA and Spirit were hiring, it's either that or get reamed at Pinnacle, it becomes a no brainer.

Our union debates aside, and frankly, I don't want to start another one. But VA has been great, we have great crews, friendly FAs, good schedules, well fed, good hotels, etc.
