SkyWest Hiring FOs

Been a long road so far, but interviewed in October and start CRJ class 2/20.

Thanks for all the tips, advice, and information on this thread!

I just received the "after reviewing your resume we regret to inform you that you were not chosen at this time" email. The email does encourage applying for future job openings. I have 2600TT, 350 multi, a four year degree, no check-ride failures, and three internal recommendations. Any ideas as to the rejection?

I have about 2500TT, 1000 turbine (600 as PIC) and received a rejection letter as well. They probably realize (correctly) that someone with that kind of experience has better opportunities elsewhere and will jump ship at the first chance.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that.....at least for myself. Just trying to analyze what I can do to improve my presentation to potential employers. :)

They want people that will stay as long as possible, you guys are just overqualified. Means I might have a chance though.

Nope. But I have heard that attempt at rationalization as a form of sour grapes! :)

In my class last year, there were quite a few of us that had experience similar to you. Perhaps something in your background?

Well hopefully you would not of bought that attitude to the interview...

I honestly think its just bad timing. They stopped interviewing in mid January and will not resume until April. Class dates are scheduled as far back as early September as of right now. Make sure you update your resume and application in April and Im sure you will have no problem. Also, word on the street is that new hires will be issued an ATP during their final check-ride so make sure you meet all the ATP requirements to better your odds of getting that interview. Hope this info gives a little insight.

I do have all the ATP requirements except age. Thanks for the info; it's helpful. :)

Well from the sound of it, it looks like they have people out to September for classes. Maybe they just started putting a hold on the interviewing for a few months. I did some research and it looks like SkyWest posted a pretty big loss (18m) for the 4th quarter earnings. From the CEO:

"We experienced some unanticipated expenses in the fourth quarter, however, I remain confident in our ability to respond to these challenges." He continued, "We have an action plan in place for 2012 that we have started to execute and is expected to return us to profitability for the year. Having said that, we expect the first quarter of 2012, to be challenged but somewhat mitigated from our fourth quarter 2011 results."

The freeze in interviewing could be due to this and also I think they might be holding off to see what oil does. Oil is up about 8-10% in the last month or two, and shows no sign of relenting. The instability with Iran and the Middle East in general is most likely going to keep it on the upward trend. I've heard, but I can't find the information, that the CRJ 200 become almost unprofitable when oil hits the $120 range. I think we are going to see most of the regionals put a hold on hiring and possible furlough if oil goes up that high.

Would it still be beneficial to attend the recruitment events even though I don't currently meet the hiring mins? Currently at 800TT/250Multi and looking to get hired on at Skywest. If I attended the event in Seattle in April, I'd be about 50 hours closer. Trying to figure out if its worth the time and money even though I'm not quite there.
