SkyWest Hiring FOs

I'll probably get flamed by people here because, " this isn't in the right place" but... Anyone have an interview coming up in early November? I thought maybe there might be a JC guy or two on the same day. PM me and maybe we can help each other out.

Why not also make a post in announcements? Maybe more will see it there.

Good morning to all,

Looking for some advice on filling out AirlineApps:

1. I haven't had any speeding tickets but did get a warning a few months ago (for going 5 over speed limit :concern:) Should I disclose it on my application? Or is it not a big deal?
2. I'm currently an FO on a CRJ for another carrier. AirlineApps is asking if I am typed in any aircraft. Is SIC considered to be a type rating?
3. Is Frasca time considered to be simulator time? Technically, it's an FTD, so I'm not sure if I should add it or not.

Appreciate any advice!

Well for #1 I would say not to worry about it. Usually written warnings never even get filed with the dept. that issued it. I know at the depts. I have worked at in the past when the warning "ticket" book was full it was filed in the nearest shredder then circular file. Checking with the issuing dept. would be a good idea just to be on the safe side. Good Luck.

I'm just starting to look at the airline interview process, so bare with me if these questions seem silly.

1) Does the min 100 multi engine time have to be PIC? I've got ~140 hours but most of that is in the T-38 as a student.
2) I know you can only count X number of hours from a sim toward instrument time, but does "simulated instrument" with a safety pilot qualify? I've also got some mil hours under NVGs that we count as instrument.
3) How much does recent flight time count? I'm getting maybe 15 hours a month in the F-16.
4) What are the chances of starting in SLC? I'm coming off active duty and my reserve squadron is at Hill AFB, so it'd be great to stay nearby.

With your military time I'd say you would be plenty competitive. I can't say for the specific things you ask but I'd hope they could look past it. If you can fly an F-16, I'll go out on a limb and say that perhaps you can handle the mega-awesome power of the CRJ-200 :)

As for SLC, I don't think it would take too long. I just had a look at the seniority list and there are some very junior FOs in SLC on both the jet and Bro.

So for those people that do graduate with a large amount of debt what do you suppose they do? Or is there another way to get your training and not be in some sort of debt?

I would say, yes you are typed. When you take your checkride at Skywest, should you get hired, you do not need to fill out an 8710. I think did I put FRASCA time as simulator time.

Hi everyone,

I just recently interviewed with Skywest Airlines and was offered a job as a first officer with them, and was told that I would be put into a possible January class. The person I spoke with told me that they would be sending me some information (including some study material) via email but that was last week. Can anyone please tell me how long after an offer has been made before you get all of the information or should I probably call them? I just donot want to make a nuisance of myself. I also wanted to say that I thought it was a great experience going to interview and I am happy to join Skywest.

Hey, feel somewhat lucky I came into this thread...and saw this...lol

It really depends on people's current position in life.

If you're a young buck, graduating high school or even younger - you need to take a realistic view of what it is you want to do for a career. If that means you are going to get yourself into so much debt that you can not expect to pay it off within 15 years, then I think you should build an action plan to get out of debt (school, career related debt) within 15 years of entering the work force. This can come through scholarships, spending some time in the military (Post 9/11 GI Bill) or working at 16 until you graduate so that YOU and your family can help get your through school / career training with minimal debt.

If you're a career changer, or have a family, have dual incomes, something with more financial stability - then I recommend saving as much as possible prior to dipping yourself into the "Loan" environment.

What I see quite frequently is that folks didn't really take an honest look at he earning potential at the various companies they work at, nor did they plan for having an extended period of time at "FO" wages. Which, is partially an issue of buying into the sales tactic used at big name schools (re: ATP, Delta Connection [or whatever they're called now], or Ari-Ben). If you go to a company expecting a quick upgrade - say two years, plan for being an FO for five years. Be prudent with your financial decisions. Expect the "lower" income conditions for a greater period of time, and if things work out that you can enjoy a raise sooner - then you'll be MUCH better off financially to actually enjoy your life.

Good luck.

Sorry I don't have that information, but I was wondering how long it took them to tell you that they were offering you a position?

I found out 8 days after the interview by email. My interview was a couple of weeks ago. No class date yet, but they did send me the study guide.

Does anyone who interviewed the first part of Oct. have a class date yet?

Skyway, the HR department people are very nice, but also very busy right now. I'd say go ahead and send a friendly email to whoever your contact is, and explain that you haven't received the study materials yet. Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks for the info, I actually interviewed October 27th (Thur), and was notified by phone call the following WED and asked if I would like EMB-120 or CRJ class and was told no set date yet for class but to expect something in January and then told I would be getting an email with appropriate study material and that is the thing, other than getting a voice mail I do not have a specific email address for Skywest to inquire about the additional information that I need to look over and study. Maybe they are just waiting until they know for sure a class date before sending me anything else. I was on track to becoming a police officer and currently halfway through the process before getting this offer so I guess if I do not hear anything back further then I may just end up sticking with that anyway, but I would sure like to keep flying though.

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that I recieved an email back informing me of a tentative May 28th, 2012 class date wow, they must be really busy. Thanks again for all the information.
