Realignment Round 2 at 9E

Told my wife what was going on with the realignment delay today.

Her comment: "Fly now, grieve later?"

:D

I seriously think our wives are just as over this whole company as you and I are. So, now my question is.....what do we do to keep this from happening again? If the company knows they can just drag awards out to their hearts content with no repercussions, then they'll take advantage of that whenever they need to. Black and white: they're in violation of the contract. What are they going to do to fix it? Outside of that, what will the union do to make them if they don't on their own?

That is the same thing I want to know as well. What is going to be done to fix the problem? I know this realignment is pretty big, covers a large portion of time, and possibly is the last one of these we will ever see, but... the company is in clear violation of the contract, and not a portion that requires a crystal ball and some deep meditation to determine the intent either.

Seems to me that nobody had a 'Plan B' for there to be problems with the award. I wonder is SM is going to stick to his earlier message and hold someone accountable for the mess this award has become.

New management, new contract, same old company...

Dear Pilots,
On October 3rd bidding closed for Realignment Notice 11-09, the extended multi-class bid. As you are aware, this large bid is intended to provide a vehicle for us to effectively manage Pilot staffing needs across our operation as we navigate through the complexities of reduced SF340 flying and integrating operations.
We are disappointed to report that, despite significant efforts to the contrary, the award is not yet completed. Efforts have been underway for some time to enhance the software system used for Position awards so that the award logic incorporates all of the intricacies of the Bloch decision. The developers and our Planning team worked extensively to program and test these enhancements with the goal of using the updated system to award Realignment 11-09. Unfortunately, these software enhancements are not yet in place and much of the award process must be completed manually.
Planning personnel – with the assistance of several ALPA representatives - are working diligently to complete the award as quickly as possible. We recognize the importance of this bid to all of you and continue to work with a sense of urgency to get the results to you. Given the amount of work that remains, it’s possible that the Award will not be published until Friday, but it’s also possible that it will be done sooner, so please continue to monitor the progress by watching for updates.
The Company apologizes for the delay in this award and, while it is difficult to advise you that we still have days of work ahead of us, we feel it is critical that we provide you with a realistic assessment of our current situation. If conditions or the associated time line changes – positively or negatively – we will ensure that we communicate those changes to you.
Warm Regards,

VP manpower planning

6pm CDT and this remains the ONLY information I have seen regarding the continued delay. Nothing from the union... nothing on the company webite. The only official communiction I have seen is the posting from the company saying they hoped it would be done sometime during the weekend and two brief sentences in the 10/8/2011 issue of 'Staying Current'.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Where did that come from? I can't find it on the 9E site or in my inbox. I can't find anything in the contract that says what happens if they miss the 7 day deadline. Is this basically an unplanned for situation like a previous poster mentioned?

That's one of the problems with this contract and its predecessor: lack of details on the consequences of missed deadlines. It's kinda like "Stop! Or we'll say, uh, stop again." If there's no penalty spelled out, well, there's really no sense of urgency on the company's part. See the scheduling things that were supposed to be completed months ago. What happens if they aren't done by the end of the year? Apparently, nothing.

It's sort of like the clause that says "The company will properly staff the airline." "Properly staffed," however, is not defined anywhere.

So, with all this anger regarding the lack of an award, there's gotta be some people that are interested in grabbing a beer. Any of you MEM type people interested in grabbing some adult beverages at the Flying Saucer, either tomorrow or Wed?

I'm in town for a couple days and figured I'd be heading there at least one of the nights. Be great to commiserate with some of my 9E/XJ brethren over some brews.

Anyone interested?

Maybe. I just "called in well" for the last two days of the four day I called in sick for, and they gave me some MEM flying for tomorrow and Wed. Thurs, I'm FedExing myself to MCO and B6-ing it to JFK. Friday is a rather big day.....

Add another 'Maybe' here as well. Tomorrow will be my first day back in a week or so. On reserve, so I will know more tomorrow as to the rest of the week.

Are you going to be at One Commerce or Nonconnah? Let me know, I'll be holed up in Nonconnah all week.

Anybody want to do me a favor? If you were hoping to hold a new seat and/or base and equipment, log onto the pref bid form, and see if the header has changed.

Mine has.

Mine has changed too to my first choice. i guess my question is did you get your first choice too? i would be skeptical if everyone got their first choice. that would tell me the system was wiped clean and everyone can hold everything.
