Aerial Survey (about that time again)

I am glad to see this level of discussion because it has provided further insight into the companies.

I'm making a resume over the weekend and will be sending them out. I hope I'm not too late. I've got 300 TT, and think this type of job would be an awesome experience. I'll report back if I hear anything.

Thanks to the previous posters for all the great info.

Cessna 206 experience?

I know NSA wouldn't let you bring anyone along. I heard a guy had his wife follow him around in an RV though.

Yeah, that was a buddy of mine, really cool couple. They had a blast all over the country. He flies up in Alaska now.

Just applied at AA, NSA, and Landcare. Even if I don't get called, it felt like a good experience to put a resume and cover letter together finally, so I'd encourage some of you other wet commercial guys to do that if you haven't already.

A question about emailing resumes if I may:

When applying through email I'm assuming is it proper procedure to add the resume and cover letter as an attachment. Do some put the cover letter in the email body and attach the resume only? I only ask because I wasn't sure what to write in the actual email body. I just wrote a few sentences stating the position I was applying for, what was attached, and that I hope to hear from them. Seemed a bit informal, but I didn't want to be too wordy in there either.

Thanks for the feedback, over.

Thats cool man, good luck. I only write a couple of sentences in the email body and attach my resume. I got an email from Landcare the next day asking me to fill an application and wait for the call, also I got one from AA. Let see what happens...

This thread has gotten pretty quite. How's everyone interviews etc. go? Anyone here anything back from Landcare DWAS AA or anyone?

I applied over the weekend. Got a call from AA today. Phone interview tomorrow with them. The guy told me on the call they get 200-300 apps for about 10 positions. They do a phone interview and rank you based on your interview and resume. They use that list to determine who gets called in for a face to face. A person leaves, and presumably they pull out the list to see who is up next to call in.

Seems like AA has done a ton of phone interviews, just by percentages it looks like it is going to be tough to get on with them this year.

^^ Hopefully not. Just got a call from them today as well. Phone interview tomorrow. Anyone from this hiring season got offered a face to face yet? Also, do you know of any set dates on interviews/ groundschool? I'm currently deployed to DC and won't get back until Nov 23rd. I put that on my resume and still got the call so idk. I'm also from Central Florida Area so maybe that helped. Flying a bunch of guys in for interviews seems like it would be pretty expensive.

Thanks everyone for the progress reports. From what I hear patience is key with AA but if you do get on with them I hear they are a great company to work for. Still being patient myself.

Is it too late to apply with Air America? I'm going to shoot them a email later today with my resume. But I don't want to waste their time if they are not hiring.

Can't say for sure. It appears that they are. You never know unless you try - so what do you have to lose? Go for it!!

For the rest, please go to the Air America website. Under the FAQ's they have a whole write up of the life as an Aerial Imaging pilot. They let you know right up front what the job entails, etc.
To those of you trying to secure a position with them, (including the bum) all the best!!

Just got done with phone interview with AA. Apparently with the Hurricanes they are looking at starting the season possibly sooner or even at a moment's notice. Some of their planes are still wrapping up jobs from last season apparently. Face to face interviews and flight evals happening in the next couple of weeks he said. Per diem is $120 per day and they are still giving two 1 week vacations with paid airfare. Not a bad gig! Hopefully it pans out.

Did they say anything about the next step (face to face)...I got mine this morning, pretty basic questions ( out of your Resume pretty much)..but it was a little too hard to hear him at times, I guess he was on speakerphone. hopefully I get the call for a face to face int...

I spoke with an AA rep today, too. He said they'd be calling back to make face to face appointments in the next week or two.

The interview was pretty straight forward. Some questions about my experience, how I'd like the work environment, an emergency scenario...

Apply ASAP because it sounds like they are wrapping up phone interviews soon.

Thanks Floridabeachbum I'm typing up my email to Air America and a few other places right now. Hopefully (knocking on wood) I hear something back. Either way this should be a good lesson as this will be the first flight job I have applied for.
