SkyWest Hiring FOs

It's just one really bad year you have to deal with, the pay goes up about $13 per hour after the first year.
I'm living proof this statement is not always the case- although I appreciate that you're trying to put first year pay into perspective. As dismal as it is, it is just first year. I just transitioned from the Brasilia after nearly 4 years in it- not by choice. My pay (on 5th year pay, not 2nd) when I left was in the vicinity of $30/hr. I don't believe that will happen at this juncture in time, but I was pretty confident back then too. I thought one year then the jet, and it just wasn't so. Side note for interested parties... SkyWest sent an e-mail today they have confirmed class dates through the end of November and plan to schedule December classes as well. It looks like some good numbers too, assuming they can get the applicants to fill the classes. I totaled 184 people they want in class by November between CRJ and EMB new hires and upgrades.

Grow up. Some guys are looking at losing their jobs. Yeah it's not a great company but lives are affected in a VERY negative way when the paycheck stops coming in.

For the sake of keeping it real 75% have already lost their jobs. In fact my good buddy at my last employer went to Mesa as a street captain the same month I went to Skywest. He has told me all along that he can't believe that JO's abuse factory has lasted as long as it did. Everybody who works at Mesa knows that JO would eventually milk it into the ground.

Having finished the pre-interview questionnaire I received last week (I corrected the right/write typo seen earlier) I have been asked to complete my ATP written and advise ASAP. Here's hoping an interview follows!

Just FYI for those hoping to come here:

Not sure if the number of students is what they want or what they have assigned thus far. My CRJ class was 30 newhires, plus 6 transitions from the EMB.

August 29: EMB class, newhire & upgrade (18)

August 29: CRJ newhire (17)

October 3: EMB newhire/upgrade (14)

October 3: CRJ newhire (30)

October 31: EMB newhire/upgrade (10)

November 28: EMB newhire/upgrade (10)

November 28: CRJ newhire (27)

More in December but dates and numbers not known.

Hey all. Quick question here...since we all have them. I'll keep it simple: 40k a year+ flying piston air ambulance on a week on/week off schedule with not a whole lot of room to upgrade to turbine (it was dangled, but everyone knows how that works) and not a whole lot more coming $$$ wise, or take a position at Skywest. Thoughts?

Not necessarily...it depends what you your end career goals are. air ambulance guys are career options too..they can stay in that job, or they can go corporate as well. There is more than those of course...

Will you be stuck at the $40k/yr salary next year as well? You will most likely be making that much at SkyWest your second year.

I left a higher paying turbine gig to come to SkyWest, and have zero regrets so far. While I did undergo a fairly substantial paycut to come here, I had to look at the long term (5+ years) view to see where I wanted to be. Despite some complainers, the vast majority of people here are pretty happy and the company is well run. Would I stay here my entire career? No, but I wouldn't plan on staying at any regional my entire career. It's a very good place to get some excellent experience that won't completely treat you like crap or force you to fly unsafe junk. Get your time, have some fun, and move on. You could certainly do much worse, trust me.

See that's the kind of thing i don't know about...i dunno where i want to be career wise. I've already been unofficially offered the chief pilot position with the air ambulance company, probably would start that around january, and i think pay would go up to 50-55k. So is it better to be stuck flying twin pistons doing maybe 200hrs a year but being a chief pilot, or going and doing multi-crew type rated airline stuff but be at the bottom of the ladder???

i hate to say it, but being unemployed would make this easier, options kind of suck.

Oh, and one more thing. Crew bases. Which are the legit junior bases, where i'd probably get assigned? Are they just assigned or can i try to pick a base? If i get houston or chicago, i'd be better off not going to skywest cause i couldn't afford to live at those places. Salt Lake or Portland would be ideal....are those even options? Even seattle could work!

Well, only you can make that decision. All I can say is that I was in pretty much the exact situation last spring, and it was agonizing. Even after I came here, I often wondered if I'd made the right move. Now that I've been here awhile, I feel pretty good about it... Particularly with the way things have worked out at my last job since my departure (and how well things have worked out here). But that's just my particular case, and it easily could have gone the other way.

If you get the Brasilia, you'll be able to get SLC pretty quickly. Certainly within six months (if not immediately) barring some drastic situation. If you get the CRJ, I have no idea. The last several new hire classes have ended up being awarded everything from SFO, FAT, SLC, DEN, COS, MSP, IAH, and ORD. I never would've thought new hires would be getting the West bases so soon, but I have no idea how long that will continue. They sure do seem intent on hiring a lot of people here for the foreseeable future though, for whatever that's worth.

Anyone have any info concerning prior poolies? I was hired @ OO in '08 and got pointed back to the pool a couple days before class started but could not return due to training contracts at the new company. I'm curious as to whether a re-interview is required. I've emailed Camielle, just waiting patiently on her reply.

Soooo i interviewed last week, it's now wed and i haven't heard anything yet....should i be concerned?? has anyone else who interviewed last week heard back???

Call them and talk to Brandi or Camille, they are swamped from what I could tell when I spoke with them today but with a little persistance I got a class date.

10/3 has one slot left which I may get depending on whether one poolie decides to take the date or not, otherwise 10/24.
