United q400 RFP

I think they want to avoid saying "Hi" to their buddy, "Steve."

The calculated airspeed on the Q is known to "bounce" 5-10 knots. Once you're used to the plane, you know to pull power before hitting bumpy things, like clouds. Pretty much ioe candidates were over speeding the airplane quite frequently. Also in the decent from 10,000 to 8000 feet vmo decreases by nearly 40kts.. if you are holding 250, there is a good chance you will miss the pole coming down to 245.. and will over speed. I said vmo-10, but it also includes FAA speed restrictions, ie 240 below 10k... and then when at 8000 Max speed for a guy on ioe is 235 kts.

Where it really burns you is at 20k+, as you are only loosing 10kts indicated, but seems to be closer to 30kts groundspeed

Colgan CA here- 131.25 credit in July. 15 days off.

August will be a nightmare though...

I was a little over 100... 2 canceled PC's dropped to days off, 1 actual PC, and recurrent ground all in one month. Flew like 35 hours?

Does the skyw pay change over the next 5 years? If no, at the end of the contract period, I will be making 11/hr more than a crj9 captain of the same year. If this company is still around, and staffing at the same levels ( same average monthly credit) the idea of 6 figures would be pretty realistic.

Neither here nor there, the contract in place now is strong enough that I'm not going to jump at the first major that hires per say... I'd like to shop for the "right" job for me.

Day one of the month, and I'm already up to 120 hours... unless I call in sic it ant be less than that.. scheduled block is 96 though, with 50 hours of ioe already scheduled... its gonna be a long month I think.

Not me I cant wait to leave tge regionals.
I think the majority of regional pilots would agree with you... million dollar question being... how many will willfully choose to stay as an RJ CA for the remainder of their career? Personally I will move on at the first opportunity....

Would you jump at us airways? Evergreen? Or wait for delta, american, united, alaskan etc? Before I would have left for the first call, more il actually wait for something better.

Thats more what I was saying.

I would go to USAirways, Spirit, JetBlue, AirTran, Allegiant, American, SWA, Delta, Uninental, UPS, FedEx, Alaska, Atlas, or World given the opportunity... but thats just me... it definitely looks like it will be a pilots market in a few years... best of luck to you all.

Probably not evergreen, atlas or southern or any of those but all the others you listed in a heartbeat. I'll add to that list, jetblue, virgin and allegiant.

Eh, I thought the same thing several months ago. However, I think I'm better off where I am (for now) than going to US Airways, World, Evergreen, etc. Now, if jetBlue, FedEx, SWA, Allegiant or Delta called, I'd be off the boat in a heartbeat. I'm just not willing to roll the dice on US Airways right now. Sure, if you win, you could win big. But if you lose....holy cow. Furloughed or being "Pan Amed" are serious possibilities at that place.

Being at any regional you don't really have much to lose.

It depends on your situation. Take mine, for example. Wife and kid, living in Memphis, commuting to JFK. If I were to go to Virgin, my QoL would actually DECREASE because I'd likely be based in SFO. If I went to US Airways, I'd take a pay cut of immense proportions the first year, and the following years are about as much of a crap shoot as they are in my current situation. Polar would have me away from my family more than I'd like. So, I'm actually (scary as it is) better off as a regional CA than I am at a lot of other places. I'd rather hold out for something that I want rather than jump on the first boat out of town.

That's true, but whats to say in 5 years delta decides they need another punching bag regional? The economy could be great but it could spell disaster for any airline. That's my thing, I don't like the contract bs flying for another airline, if I get furloughed I want it to be because of economic reasons and not because some other airline under bid us for our flying. If there is growth to be had I want to know that I will be positively affected by it and not worry about someone else getting it.

I guess my big thing is that I still don't really feel like an airline pilot. I wear the "costume" but to me it still feels like I haven't made it yet.

I guess I can afford to take a little more risk... I don't have a family to worry about yet.

Kellwolf and I are in similar situations, except I hold 15 days off, live in base, and am doing OK. I don't think its going to last, but I'm not going to start commuting for a contract that's worse than mine, a payscale that puts me back below poverty line, or where I'll be impending furlough fodder.

Soe things are just not worth it... I also have a spouse +1, makes thing a bit different

Same here....minus the +2. I would definitely like to move on....but there's no chance I'm jumping to simply jump. I don't have SMS....Shiny Major Syndrome. When the right opportunity presents itself, I'M THERE! Until then, I'll ride out my solid credit/ days off with reasonable seniority while living within driving distance to base.

Oh, believe me. I know about Delta's regional roulette. Assuming we don't default on the contract with Delta, I've got about 6 years to move the frak on. I've told several FOs, if I'm still here in 2017 (when the -200 agreement is up), put me out of my misery because I royally screwed something up somewhere. Unless we get our -200 contract Freedomed, they can't take us any lower than we already are on airframes.
