SkyWest Hiring FOs

Well, I applied with out the required 100 ME minimums. I met all the other requirements. I got the "thanks for your interest, but you don't meet our minimum requirements" response. I thought it was worth a shot!

If anyone has interviewed recently and has some gouge, please PM me. I have an interview in January, the most recent one I could find was from 2007 and am wondering if anything has changed.

Wish I got mine in sooner. I applied via airlineapps.com when I saw the thread. Didn't know they had their own application on their site. Why they have an airlineapps.com account is beyond me.

"Some guys think because they have a business degree from university of Phoenix they can fallback into a cushy 75k plus job at a fortune 500, when the reality is they will be selling mutual funds at wells fargo for 30k plus commissions."

I don't think the argument is being able to fall back on a 75k a year job should the flying career sputter. I think the argument is being able to fall back on something vs. nothing. A business degree will open more doors than an aviation degree. 30k plus commisions is better than nothing should you get laid off.

I should point out that an aviaton degree is not "useless". I have a degree from an accredited four year University, but due to financial planning I'm less than 50K in the hole and the military is helping with the rest. I do live a limited lifestyle, but I still have fun, pay the bills and have money at the end of the month to put away. And I am a full-time CFI.

I get asked a lot by people if I think my degree was worth it and I say yes. Even if I leave the industry I still have a degree and considering how the world has changed over the past 20 years it certainly can't hurt. While I'm not qualified to be a bio-chemist or neurosurgeon many large corporations and government jobs just require a degree... period. Furthermore its very common these days for people to have a degree in one thing and work in an entirely different field. On top of that I am an enlisted reservist in the military, I'm considering taking commission after I finish my contract to be an officer and I have the hardest part (college degree) covered. It doesn't matter what its in, you just need the degree.

My previous employer (not part 121) also pretty much exclusively hired pilots with a Bachelors' Degree and most of those were from accredited 4 year aviation universities. Actually come to think of it (and I stand corrected on this if I'm wrong), but Doug mentioned that in the last class of DL new hires pretty much everyone had a degree... including at least one masters degree.

So what I'm saying is "jumping in head first" in the aviation pool with no prior planning or research to a private four year university to the tune of 200K is probably a bad idea... but with financial proper planning and strategizing and degree can definitely get you hired!

The second link in the first post. Or if you start at http://www.skywest.com/ then hit Job Openings>First Officer Pilot. At that point there will be an Apply Online button in the top right corner.

Anyway I have my app in at both places and haven't heard a peep. Although my app from skywest's site was done today and I did get a "thank you" for submitting the app.

I'll admit. Their website has a lot to be desired. Just looking at their history on their website we come to find out that 9/11 actually occurred in the year 2000. :buck:

Yea got a message from her yesterday. Called back today and she just wanted some info about my app. I haven’t interviewed yet, but she said i would get a call for an interview this week some time. How did your interview go?

It went well, I just got the call last night from St. George offering me a Brasilia slot... not sure when exactly class will be, but the next one is "tentatively" planned for 1/31. Good luck with your interview! PM me if you've got questions.

Congrats!!! Hopefully you get the next class. (Maybe I'll see you on IOE. :) )

I just went on willflyforfood.com for a gouge and the last one shown is from 2007. Can any one chime in for an updated gouge?
