NYT via Reuters: UAL + LCC 'deep' in Merger Talks

I don't know man......

I think that particular scenario would more likely require these guys:

When it comes to SLI (Seniority List Integration), it's like a bunch of rubenesque drag queens that have brow-lined their "angry eyebrows" and are fighting backstage about who is going to go home with Nathan Lane.

And they've all got lawyers.

Wigs flying around, hair extensions pulled, falsetto'ed admonitions of "Oh no you di'int!", size-15 slingbacked high heels being thrown about and airline CEO's gleefully watching because "Labor is going on SALE, girls!"

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on BRAWNDO!

Funniest thing I heard all month...man, I owe you a beer for that laugh...

Speaking of drama queens, the GF says she gets a better quality of conversation from the ladies at the laundromat than from any of my pilot friends.

Another of her gems:

Drama : Bad stuff that happens to people

DRAmah : Bad stuff that happens to people that they bring on themselves

Back to my epicly long 755 to 7ER worldwide conversion LMS, now in it's 5th hour....sheesh...Dr. Zhivago was shorter.

Thanks brotha!

The "powers that be" that decided that we didn't need 1:1 training:pay didn't realize that we created a disincentive for the training department to keep the distance learning succinct. Notice how much time you spend clicking, confirming, opening and closing boxes, having a voice take 35 seconds to read what it takes you 3 seconds?

Drives...

Me...

Crazy...

Maybe Buzz'll blow up the rat in front of the HQ to show our frustration and resolve... ;) :sarcasm:

Where are you based anyway, DTW?

Detroit Rock City the last 6 years. MSP 5 years before that. Sprinkled some TDY in MEM for a couple of months.

MSP:

Pros:
Good place to try out all those sweaters and thick socks your aunt keeps sending
GOOD CPO. Top drawer folks.
DC-9 flying out of there was the best. thing. ever.
Caribou Coffee
Feels good when you leave

Cons:
Cold. Way cold. Colder than the depths of hades. Colder than the tax man's heart.
Unless you're from there, or have a kid that plays hockey there, you might as tune out if you're flying with a local.
It's a LONG walk from G22 to F16.
If you meet a girl from there, go ahead and buy the grave plot there, because you. will. NEVER. leave.

DTW:

Pros:
Nice terminal, no delays or holding, fab de-icing crews.
National Coney Island for breakfast. Get the special. Can't be beat, and they open at 0500.
Wendy's AND Popeye's...although the Popeye's is kinda lame (I lived in NOLA....Popeye's there ROCKED)
Nice, clean, cheap hotels for commuters. Lots of options.
Council 20 reps are rock solid and have your back

Cons:
Cold...see above.
Other food choices are slim if your "Oil Level Full" annunciator is on.

MEM

Pros:

Great people.
Interstate BBQ
Interesting flying (back in the day)
Minimum hassle airport, at least until FedEX decided to fly in the daytime.

Cons:
Corkey's BBQ
You CAN get sick of BBQ after your 3rd month of TDY
Staying at the "SkyBox" in the terminal (since closed)

I have no idea how the SLI works for this type of merger but can't they just have an arbitrator look over the list, figure out a fair integration and then make a "this is how it's going to be if you don't like it too bad" ruling?

That already happened once. It was called "binding" arbitration for a reason, but it didn't seem to stick. Before any new SLI, the old one needs to be resolved.

Latest word from NBC is that LCC would acquire UAL, thus preventing snap-back provisions in the LCC contract.

My guess: LCC acquires UAL, the United name is kept, DP bails out GT takes over, SLI is left to the union(s), and the experiment that is deregulation will be over (I can at least hope that something good comes out of this mess).

As good a guess and any. I couldn't imagine a poorer decision to use US Airways over United. Maybe PSA and Piedmont could be call usairways now. Save on paint livery costs.

United has a globally recognized name.

USAirways, as much as I fear that this might cost me a jumpseat from time to time, has become synonymous with "How NOT to do a merger"

Mike! Doug! Somebody...I think He should loose a mancard for knowing the name of a store that sells exclusively female attire! :p

I know the name only because Nathan Lane talks about it! Wait! Oh no!... :panic:

More-pointly:
UAUA_LCC.png

Both companies' "market capitalizations" seem to have fared well. The merger should at least give people something to talk about other than the Q1 results.

There are no snap-back provisions in the LCC contract. That's nothing but a USAPA fantasy.

But even if there were, an acquisition wouldn't change it. Unless a JCBA is negotiated between all parties, the existing CBAs remain in effect until handled in Section 6.

You know what?

Yeeerrrrrrrrrrr offfffffffff mehhyyy jummmmmmpseat!!!!!!!

Sorry, I was thinking about a different provision that USAPA is currently grieving, related to their belief that snap-backs are supposed to happen automatically as of last year. Disregard.
