New "controller" at KJFK Tower...

Hey, if I can give instruction to a 10year-old kid in a AIRPLANE...then talking on the radio on the GROUND is okay by me.

NATCA National should be ashamed if its self, what a bunch of traffic dodgeing douch bags.this isnt that union that i and other helped to start.

yeah, i cant believe that the union threw him under the bus like that.

It has nothing to do with identification or TSA it has to do with management.

In fact the jumpseat program is back. You have to do it within an 8 hour shift and are only allowed one Fam trip a year. Very hard to do, so basicly noone wants to do it.

It has to do with covering their butts so it doesn't look like we are taking gifts.

You can really tell the difference between controllers who have fam'ed (or had previous aviation careers that had them in the cockpit) and those that haven't. Those that have tend to be more laid back and open to requests. Those that haven't don't care and tend to deny requests.

...or maybe we don't know what you want or what you do in the cockpit...

Someone call CNN International: looks like the French let unauthorized people make ATIS recordings. We should all fear for our lives when flying in French airspace.

Seconds from imminent DOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

I'd better tune in to the local and network news so they can keep me safe!!!! :sarcasm:

This guy is a really popular controller. I really hope that after 2 or 3 weeks he and the sup. get allowed back into the tower. If the dems ram healthcare through in the next 2 or three weeks we will never hear of this story again. The media will only be talking about that.

If the media jumps all over healthcare and completely drops this story it will help their chances of seeing the scopes again.

I'm not going to mention places, times, dates or anything specific, I'd hate to see some good controllers loose their jobs, but I took my 8 year old daughter for a tour of A control tower a while back. They had a blast with her, and had her doing all kinds of things with them. Not sure what all, cause I'm not a controller, but they had her help logs slips of paper that had clearances on them, grab binoculars and look for planes, do something on the computer, etc.....They let her do "real" controller work, just about everything short of issuing take-off clearances, for about an hour. They were having so much fun with her, and having her "help" so much that I was ready to go long before she or they were. It was the highlight of her YEAR, and I still hear that she might want to be a controller someday.....Jeeeeesh people, lighten up. What a paranoid, knee-jerk society we've become. How nice that people can comment, be angry, and scared about something they know absolutely nothing about.

That's the problem. That's why so many people are afraid of flying, and why people won't fly on "small" planes like a CRJ. They know nothing about it. You'll notice that almost everyone that DOES know the system doesn't give a darn about this. If we can talk some sense into the argument, this wouldn't be an issue. Problem is, we can't.

Amen. Did he not know about "ladies first"? Heads must roll! :sarcasm:

He needs to go to rehab!!!

HE NEEDS TO GO TO REHAB AND APOLOGIZE TO 'MERICA!

Let Dr. Phil at him. That guy is good. He'll show him!

Heavy amounts of :sarcasm:

Perhaps we could make some "Free JFK ATC" stickers to show solidarity with our microphoned and scoped brothers up in the tower.

I really hope that this doesnt get out of hand.

When i was small I also was able to visit alot of ATC sites, and sit in alot of airliner cockpits.
It is a very inspiring thing. Like Doug said, after that i was also hooked.

Being able to visit and go to these places during my training really helped me learn even more. It was awesome to see the other side of what was going on when it came to ATC and such.

A few months ago I was able to visit the JFK tower while i had a break between working flights. And it was a very good experience being able to learn some local knowledge and meet the people that i talk to on the radio.

Didn't anyone hear? Instead of following through on pubnats and sending people to OKC, they are now recruiting elementary schools and doing OJT. From 8 to 56 means they are going to get 48 years of work out of the kids before they are forced to retire.
