New "controller" at KJFK Tower...

listening to LiveAtc as I waste away in the cube farm and understandably, the controllers seem to be very short in their communication. I know you don't want congestion on frequency, but you can sense the uneasiness in the tower. Very interesting indeed. A different vibe for sure.

Not sure if it has been brought up, but I cannot believe that the media has not screamed....."how can people be listening to ATC....That website is a breach of security.... The tuurists are gonna get us......" d000000000mmmmm.

If it also takes the terrorists two weeks to react to something that was said, we should be in pretty good shape.

Same here, its a nice relief from the long day of pointless emails and meetings.

I feel like I am listening to the roll call scene in Ferris Bueller. There is not even a shred of even enjoyment in their voices.

Would be cool if pilots would come on and voice their support for the controllers. With the increased scrutiny it might cause an even greater uproar, this time towards pilots for unauthorized chatter, but would be nice to show all those media outlets who are certainly listening that it really isnt a big deal.

This thread is by far a thread in which I've posted comments moreso than any other on JC, so I guess I would say I'm truly incensed with the media hype.

. . .so much so, I've actually emailed the FAA administrator AND posted comments to most of the media websites expressing my displeasure over their reporting of this event:

I am appalled by the inaccuracy of the initial reporting of this activity and the paranoid response by the timid masses who actually believe safety was an issue in a child mimicking calls from his air traffic controller father. There was no safety compromise. No lives were being put at risk, yet the media is raising this to the point of utter hysteria. SHAME ON YOU ALL!

Let's run a hypothetical. . .

On tomorrow's Good Morning America program, instead of your "normal" newscaster, place a budding 12-year old newsporter on camera and have them "READ" from the teleprompter. Do you honestly believe viewers are going to believe the reporters presentation are any more or less "serious?" Is the news being presented going to be more or less credible? An excellent "take your kid to work" day ruined by the media.

Never mind. . .doesn't matter. I won't be watching GMA anymore. Sickening.

I'm pissed!

Good for the lawyer! I'm getting pretty sick of these people making these apples to oranges comparisons......

Yeah, I saw that on the today show this morning. The NTSB guy is an idiot, the kid wasn't controlling..It is not comparable to a lawyer having his son/daughter do the cross examination. It would only be similar to that if the father told the kid exactly what to say during the cross examination. I'm surprised there are passengers that are agreeing with the controller, someone said "they are making a mountain out of a mole hill." (which is exactly true)

Maybe we should all get buttons made that say Free "the controllers names"....and wear them......anyone know their names

Can someone point out what regulation was broken? Save the carless and wreckless, I don't think this was either, since it was handled the same way a student is handled. Supervisors can speak over their student's.

Would anyone here not be the least bit hesitant to accept a clearance from a child?

Far fetched maybe, but picture some kid on the airport property goofing around with a VHF transceiver.

In any event, it was very dumb of the controller to think this wouldn't cause his career any harm.

Nope, you could hear the other controllers in the background.

Seriously guys; mountain out of a mole hill.

No, and if you really listen to the tape, the guy would clear a plane to position and hold, then the kid would clear the takeoff, and the dad immidiatly would position the next plane in line...so on and so forth.
10 bucks says the kid was plugged into dads station, just like a trainee would be......there was absolutly nothing unsafe about what happened. Was it smart, maybe not, but quit drumming up sensationalism...thats Miles' job
