2010 and beyond to be interesting for Regionals

Just my own thoughts here, but just watching Republic do what they have done and now keeping an eye on Skywest it seems like the mega regionals are throwing it all out on the table and taking risks with their own brand and different countries. Will these airlines eventually be the domestic carriers in the US? If you are an employee at one of these places will you still try to move to the regionals or will you ride the wave to wherever it takes you? I am very interested to see how this ASA/SKYWEST vietnam thing works.

It seems like these regionals have a ton of money and they have to invest it somewhere so they are trying. Meanwhile the PNCL corp is struggling trying to pay off a Bond due in Feb that leaves them with not nearly enough money for a long time to grow, and Mesa is in Chapter 11, how is this all going to look in a year or two?

I seriously hope i am off reserve one day so i dont have time to write stupid posts like this, hahaha

Except RAH can't run CAT II approaches. Big Boy airline, requires Big Boy Training.

Surreal, I agree that its a joke that RAH can't shoot a CAT II approach yet but what does your post contribute other than just another worthless low blow at RAH?

pilotlight's post regarding RAH's long term competition factor with Skywest. Bedford's going to need to spend some money if he is going to compete. And you can't really have a domestic powerhouse carrier if that carrier can't get into airports when the weather is below CAT I.

My goal is to get the heck out of the regionals!

Yes they will. The market is changing and there isn't enough demand in the sense of what it was even a few years ago. The airlines with many CRJ200s and ERJs are trying to maneuver the best they can now in order to be competitive when its time to dump those airframes. Ie. RAH buying up Midwest, Frontier. SkywestASA helping out United with millions in loans etc. There will also be a lot of consolidation among regionals. Its pretty safe to say now that the national regionals have become major airlines.

But how much do they have left in the bank to wipe that debt free and how much debt is owed?

Rough numbers in my head is $60+M after debts. They have been turning $10+M profit/qtr including colgan. I would have to look at the sec filings for exact numbers. Off to sleep on my RR overnight.

I don't think Republic not having CAT II has anything to do with big boy airline or not. There are contract "Regional" (I use the quotes because I disagree with the title usage anymore in the industry) airlines that have CAT II. It's more of a cheap look at things. RAH was being really dumb cheap and they have paid the price without that FFD. That was a quite a cute, uneducated, regurgitated cut at the stubborn management of an airline that despite being cheap and stubborn, seems to be unprecedentedly envied...though (long inhale).

That and we just secured a $10M line of credit, too. Not sure why.....
