2010 and beyond to be interesting for Regionals

Republic needs to get on the ball with the CATII ASAP. For the 4th day in a row, there is heavy fog here in the midwest. I diverted once, and at least 2 other times had 3585 on my last trip and barely made it in. at STL right now its 1200 RVR. Guess who's not able to land...Republic/Chautauquatron. Guess who is, Air Tran and Southwest...and they're laughing all the way to the bank.
 
I think it just shows the differences in management attitudes at what was very recently a FFD carrier -- where a wx cancellation wasn't really their problem.

It makes me wonder if they could call these wx cancellations and strand their passengers somewhere. Weather + cheapness cancellation is more like it.

Yup. Which is my point regarding a Big Boy airline.

Want to be a Big Boy Airline (non-FFD) then you'll need to be qualified as one - otherwise you're clearly going to be eating the cancellation costs - oh and - customer goodwill - whatever may be available.

Oh I agree with you. From my understanding, CATII is in the works, its just going to take forever to get everyone trained.

Which makes me wonder WHY we need that money so quickly. Perhaps they need to it start up ops in LGA. About the only thing I can think of. Either that, or there's a super-secret RFP that we haven't heard about.

And WX cancellations CAN actually hurt a FFD carrier. Depends on how the services agreement is worded. I'm sure if you go over XX cancellations with Delta, they'd be more than happy to kick ya to the curb.
