"Practice" Emergency Descent

Safety doesn't work like that. Just because it's legal DOESN'T mean it's safe. If you want to argue that descending 12000 fpm is safe, then just wow... Thats all I can say...
You're the one that brought up the rules...

What is safe? 4,000, 6,000, 8,000 where does it go from safe to unsafe?

Sounds like you don't have the balls to do a max effort descent. It's perfectly safe if you know what you are doing.

because theres no way to drop a lear at 12,000 fpm without exceeding Vne. Even if it is possible, it's not the smartest thing to be admitting on a public forum.

VLE is limiting during an emergency descent in a Learjet.
Admitting he was abiding by the limitations of the jet? If I remember correctly, VLE is 265. So with spoilers out, gear down and pitched down to hold 265, you are coming down like a brick. And in the 35, you can turn the fuel computers off to get an even greater rate of descent.

I'd love to go back flying a 23 and have you as my copilot. I'd have you peeing in your pants, you'd go home crying to mommy whining about how the "unsafe" captain was scaring you by flying the jet right to the edge of it's performance envelope.

My point is that even if it can be done without going past Vne, it's still not part of any normal operating procedure and it shows a disregard for the rules. If an interviewer were ever to read this thread, mickcweb would have some explaining to do.

This coming from the guy who advocates doing "flips" in airplanes that are not certified for acro. Do I need to look up that thread?

Was he the one that did the abortion of a roll in the Learjet?

Mike is on furlough from Airnet. Butt is just talking out of his butt. Mike is far from incompetent in fact he has done more for this profession then butt will ever do. There is a reason Mike has never had a hard time finding a job.

Thanks for the clarification.

I've done more for the aviation that you'll ever dream of, sonny.
