"Practice" Emergency Descent

Hey, someone check my math here but wouldn't 12000 FPM equate to about 120 knots. And I thought that emergency descents are Airspeed restricted!? Does it matter what the VSI says during a descents at Vle.

I only have 600 hours but the first thought I had about exceeding Vne at 1200 fpm just threw me for a "loop". Someone besides the butt please teach me....

Thats 120kts straight down towards the ground. Since the plane flies "on a slope" the airspeed will be more. Say for a 30 degree angle downwards thats a 240 kt airspeed.

I didn't even think about that...I was thinking that it doesn't matter what your vertical speed is as long as you don't bust an airspeed on the way down. As has been said it would definitely be uncomfortable for anyone if the pressurization fails. But not as uncomfortable as lack of oxygen during the descent.

Ok...but even then what is Vne for the aircraft they are referencing? Surely you wouldn't even come close to breaking Vne during a "controlled" emergency descent.

Just wondering...:dunno:

I've done more for the aviation that you'll ever dream of, sonny.

What, exactly, have you done for "the aviation" other than post inconsistent flamebait on this forum? I'd really like to know.
I am curious about that as well. Please help us understand...Butt...what contributions you have made to aviation at large. (Besides a clinic on how not to act on a public aviation forum.)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that, or what the confusion between airspeed v. VSI is. In the Encore (and I assume most planes), for an emergency descent, you pull the power levers to idle, put out the speed brakes, and then pitch to maintain Mmo (Mach .755) until Vmo (292 KIAS). Usually that transition is somewhere around FL280. Since the jet is very thrust sensitive, pulling the power levers to idle and putting out the speed brakes allows for some very high descent rates, or in the area of 12,000 fpm as you stated. So yes, that's close to 120 kts straight down, but your airspeed is still at or below your limits.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as "Vne" in a jet. We don't have it in the CRJ....

It's called Vmo and Mmo.... it varies with altitude, and is reflected as such on the speed tape.

I postulate that butt has never touched a jet, if he doesn't know that Vne isn't a jet speed.

You will all notice, he is now absent from this thread...

Shocker.

He doesn't respond to my posts...or my PM's...I don't know why he doesn't like me:dunno:

Who is Mc Lovin', by the way?

I told her what time it is!
