And so it begins... XJT stole SKYW's flying

".......and if you fail again in this manner, we will have no option but to terminate your employment and replace you with one of the many SJSers willing to work for beans, currently in the stack of resumes on Mr O's desk. You've been warned....."

Go make me some Ghorma Sabzee Fly Boy

Correct. That is the main issue here. UAL ops wants the brake release to pushback time to be less than 1 minute in case other aircraft are waiting on the gate.

But, with the de-ice scenario then that means that we have responsibility for the passengers and the aircraft with no pay since they want to do the De-Ice at the gate after we have already loaded everyone up.

Regarding the Main Cabin Door pay issue that Justin is referring to... that was a computer system issue. Our contract says we get paid from brake release to Main Cabin Door opening... however, the company software was capturing the baggage door instead and as a result we were losing several minutes of time each leg. We won in arbitration, but the company still said it was too expensive to fix the computer software, so they worked out a deal where every pilot got an extra 20 minutes of pay per month until it was fixed.

We finally have it fixed, and some pilots who are logging the difference are seeing as low as 15 minutes to as high as 40 - 60 minutes a month.

Hopefully we can find some work-around the UAL De-Ice issue too.

What makes you (XJT) so special? It's UAL's policy. Do you think they should change if just to make you (XJT) happy?

No reason to insinuate that Bob (XJT) is special.

It''s not that UAL needs to fix it, merely that XJet management need to figure out a way to pay its pilots once the door is closed. We are trying to work that out as well at SkW.

GoJets has worked it out, we should be able to as well

It's a pilot pay issue, not a UAL contractual issue. If Expressjet can work out a solution where their pilots get paid when the door closes while UAL gets paid based on brake release, it's an excellent precedent.

GoJets sends an ACARS once the MCD closes, and that starts the clock.

Precedent set, now it's up to the other airlines to do the right thing.

As much as you guys love to bash, heaven forbid that GoJets has something better than a "premium regional".

Why does United care when the brake is released? Are they paying the contract airlines by the minute now? I thought it was fee per departure.

This is the second post where you are trying to stir up some ...

Why not try make your points without the cheap shots?

You have a nice career, you have made us all well aware of that fact. Why not come from a place of more experienced mentor?

You could become a well respected member of our community.

I know that would be more in line with the spirit of Jetcareers.;)

I think it's because they are looking for money wherever they can get it.

It is in the contract, and to not follow the contract gives them an opportunity to fine us. That is a least part of it from the way I understand it.

No. You guys constantly bash GoJets as the worst of the worst of regionals, how they are "scabs", threaten to deny them jumpseats and all sorts of other juvenile threats. Well, it now seem that GoJets has a system of pay that is clearly superior to what is regarded here as the premium regional airline. How can that be? You guys said that GoJets contract sux.

What Bumblebee said! :)

Just take the higher road. Take the higher road.

You are painting with the broad brush now. You say to me "you guys" which is a false statement. Matter of fact, of most of the people here having this conversation, I would like to see one that was going to deny a jumpseat to a go jet person.

I agree, there are some here at jetcareers that show an attitude of a superior nature, those that make those sorts of idiotic statements. We tolerate most of them until they finally get rude enough to be banned. It has not been happening all that much here in this thread. You are one of the few here trying to turn this conversation into a vitriolic and divisive exchange.

Now, I have asked you repeatedly to stop trying to stir the crap, and act more like a mentor. Can you do that?

Would you like to mellow a little and become an asset here?

I think you have alot to offer if you would.

I must say I'm disappointed.

To paint the majority of the community in that light is false. And your logic in doing so is pretty sad. Everybody has their 5%, even your shop.

To say an airline has a singular clause in their contract that might be better than another airline then using that logic to make a sweeping statement that is at best debatable is kinda trollish.

Your shop has one of the better compensated contracts out there. Are there other airlines that have a clause or 2 better? Yes. Does that mean your contract sucks? No.

Please recheck the majority of your posts, then read your "introductory" post:

Hello everyone. This is my first post here on JC. As my screen name suggests, I'm an A-300 pilot for UPS. I'm a refugee from the other popular aviation forums that have devolved into a non-stop immature bash fest.

I hope to contribute and share here, the knowledge and experience that I've gained in over 23 years in the air cargo industry.

I challenge you to be a positive role model for the community, and meet your own expectations of a forum. You have the industry chops, and it's up to you on the presentation.

We've had our shares of industry veterans that turn out to be bullies.

You'll find that it's not the knowledge or perspective you possess that gets confrontational responses, but the presentation.

:yeahthat:too.

A300,

The overall issue isn't that UAL doesn't want to start paying at brake release... because, as was stated earlier, it's fee for departure and flight completion.

Rather, the issue is that UAL Ramp Ops want a defined point to know when a gate is empty... or will be, within a minute or so. As a result, they are using "brake release" for that purpose.

Now comes the issue of winter ops in ORD where the jetway is off, aircraft is under it's own power and air, all checklists are complete, and the PIC is responsible for the aircraft and all who are in it... and yet, the pilots still can't start getting paid until the de-icing is complete, because de-ice occurs at the gate and UAL want's the gate available within 1 minute of brake release and we can't release the brake until de-ice is complete.

At XJT, we get paid contractually upon brake release, which under normal circumstances occurs within 1-5 minutes from Main Cabin Door closure, after all appropriate checklists and W&B are complete.

So, during UAL winter ops in ORD, there is a potential for an additional 5-30 minutes of unpaid time for us each departure while waiting for a de-ice truck, and while having full responsibility for the aircraft and all souls on-board.

So again, we aren't trying to change UAL's policy. We are simply looking for a work-around with our own management in this unique situation that we have yet to encounter. If we can successfully negotiate a successful outcome, then we would of course share that info with other airlines who are in similar situations and could benefit from our policies.

Hope that helps A300...

Bob

My experiences as a UAL vendor

I'll give ORD props for being very efficient in the de-ice department. About the only thing that was an efficient service for us. Usually 2 trucks at the airplane on the gate. Most times I was amazed how quick it went.

As far as UAL and their departure times. We were forced into ACARS with the UAL contract. Well, the E170 default was all doors closed to trigger OUT. Anyone who's flown into IAD, especially when the "G" gates were in use, knows that even having bags 5 minutes after departure time is amazing. Well, good old UAL decided that they got tired of being hit with delays due to the below wing service. Magically, the ACARS were re-rigged to trigger when the L1 was shut and brakes off.

Amazing how that on-time stuff works.

Then again, you'd sit at the ATM with open gates you couldn't park at because you're commuter scum. It's amazing how a supposed seamless airline to customers becomes very territorial due to internal turf battles.

Good stuff...

But in the end, it's all about the benjamens....

I used to think A-300 was a UPS troll.

Now it's getting pretty clear he's just a former 250 hour wonder, probably closing in on 1000 hours at some crap-hole regional, who fills out fake information in their forum profile so people think he knows something.

"Hi Guys, I'm Clocks, you may know me from my past career when I was the first person to break the sound barrier. Everyone should listen to my trolling posts now because I pretend to be someone cool and knowledgeable."

Typical response from you people when someone disagrees with you or doesn't support your cause. You can believe I am whatever you like.
