Northwest Overshoot / Cert Action....

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

...saved me from getting fired and certificate action after bent metal. Tell the truth.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Like I said earlier... if you screw up, just fess up and deal with it.

But, for goodness sake, don't be stupid. Don't do stupid stuff. Accidents happen, schtuff happens, but use your brain and don't be stupid.

Agreed. Be careful out there guys and girls. It only takes one momentary lapse of judgment.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Pretty open and close case (as it seems). They were in blatant violation of the policies. They violated FAA regulations. They lied to the employer and probably to the NTSB (just an assumption). Final result: TERMINATION. I saw that the FAA may take action as soon as tomorrow to revoke or suspend the pilot's tickets.

What a smack in the face of all the PROFESSIONAL pilots out there.

As for the engineer thing...good call Mike D...and C141loady...get back there and get me some coffee!!! If we wanted your opinion, we would have asked for it! :laff: Besides, if the pilot's had their laptops out, so would I...looking at porn!

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Here's another interesting item:

I've never sat up front in a "bus" so I don't know how loud the wind noise is in the cockpit. So if both pilots were are having a verbal discussion and then add whatever ambiant background noise in the cockpit to that; could they hear the radios good enough to diferentiate the various radio traffic? They'll be really lucky if there isn't any certificate action taken against them by the FAA on top of what Delta will do to them for breaking company policy.

On the 767 once we pass FL180 the headset comes off and we don't put them back on until decent. No matter how small the headset is they really hurt on long flights.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

I bet they were on Jetcareers...
You mean in the cockpit? I doubt DeltaWest has internet on their planes.

The A320's cockpit is quiet enough to take the headsets off during cruise (based on my experience jumpseating on one a couple of times)

I got some coffee for you. Want cream with it? How about a litte colon blow to sweeten it? Perhaps a 10k chain under your seat cushion? heh.

You been travelling man? I have been telling off-topic Fred jokes again and you haven't caught me this time! :laff:

There's that "Fred" stuff again...:)

I would think they could have a wireless card and connect to the internet on the flight even in the cockpit. I thought I read that Delta has added wifi connection to many of their airplanes...

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

No way they were on the internet, Deltawest having wifi? Ha! Maybe if one day after they get audio or video on the domestic fleet, which they don't even have.

DL has wifi on a ton of its planes yes, but NW has no IFE other than magazines on the A319/320, DC-9s, and 757s.

Don't speak before you research. :)

We've got wifi on quite a few planes- I'm not sure about the status about "north" airplanes, but I know it is being installed.

That being said, I doubt they were on teh interwebz.

After reading in more detail their story that came out from the NTSB today- I think it's certainly plausible that they are telling the truth.

The north guys are going through a tremendous amount of changes (80% of their policies and procedures are changing and have changed to the south's version)- and the busses just changed over to the south's bidding. I can see how it can happen... though in no way is it excusable to not pay attention to Fifi.

Can you imagine wifi on the Diesels?! LOL!!!

I did! I know for sure SouthernJets has wifi on quite a few of their planes. NWA's fleet, particularly the narrobodies, were doubtful. I'll accept wrong if I am. :)

The narrowbodies are primarily the ships that are getting wifi, as they are less likely to have personal entertainment systems.

Re: DeltaWest Overshoots Destination....

Hey kids... don't post here often and perhaps it's already been mentioned- didn't want to sift thru the pages of posts but what the NW pilots are claiming seems to make sense.. Side sticks with trays in front of the displays where a laptop could very easily obstruct their view- combine that with hats off and not listening and I could very easily see this happening... thoughts?
