This thread is here to remember the life of this gentlemen, not parade this accident around.

Timing is the name of the game and you have lacked it in the past two threads.
:yeahthat:We don't need tasteless posts here.

RIP bud, we really miss ya.

Once you have kids you have a different perspective. That photo brought a tear to my eye and I hope his family can find some comfort in the days to come.

Tailwinds my friend.

Simply awful news...I have an 11 month old, and it breaks my heart to think of his family without their Daddy. Only knew Ben from reading his posts, but he'll be missed, and remembered.

Aviation is a cruel mistress. She gives you so many freedoms and experiences that only a select group of us can share. She also takes from us indiscriminately and without warning. We can merely try to tip-toe around her pitfalls by staying proficient and safe. All the while knowing that in spite of our best efforts, we can pay the ultimate price.

Unfortunately in this field, more frequently than we should, we must mourn the loss of our own.

Because of this, it is all that more important to celebrate life.

Rest in Peace, Benjamen Hill. We'll meet down the road.

So very well stated. RIP.

I don't have a problem with the link... I was sad to hear it, but glad that I could...

He sounded pretty calm and almost routine, I was proud of him through the heavy emotions of knowing it was his last transmission...

As far as DC10-flyby
We all grieve in different ways, and I think our 16 year old poster (I know, almost 17) was just trying to share and understand.

A very emotional time, remember to be kind with one another, and if there are two ways to take something, take it in the best way possible ;)

Agreed. Well stated BB.

I didn't know him, but I always enjoyed his posts, and I won't be forgetting that avatar.

Ben, thank you for your contribution to this community. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace.

I can't believe this! :(

I have been offline for a bit as I'm on vacation, sort of, and I log on and see this.

I feel numb.

I only met him the once at NJC '07, but never thinking that might be it.

This hits close to home, makes me think about my wife and kids. I don't know what to say.

No doubt man, no doubt.

He was a good man. Flew his flights, helped where he could, took care of his family and kept it on the positive tip for us all.

:(

I don't remember EVER hearing a discouraging word or an angry/sarcastic post from that guy ever.

He never said "quit".

Ben will forever be a great example.

Everytime I check in I keep coming back to the last thread he started:

My wife has skillz; from scratch, locally grown apples.

Going back for more.

To read that and then see the picture of his little girls, makes the heart heavy.

May they be watched over from here on out.!!!!

Yeah, I hope he had insurance. In times like these, we need to think about the burden on our families if we die. AOPA has some pretty affordable group life insurance rates that cover airplane crashes. It sounds corny, but for less than a cup of coffee a day, it is something you don't have to worry about.

Never met the man, but PM'ed back and forth about fly fishing. I've been absent from the boards and check in and find this................horrible.

Really can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said, and really, what can be said at a time like this?

Ben.............God Bless, Rest In Piece and look over all of those that are dear to you. Your family is in our prayers! When you get a break from your greater calling, find time to throw the dry fly!

Cheers!

On a side note...........why is it always the good ones?

I was so sad to read about Ben's passing; I loved his story about finding the PBR and his avatar always made me laugh. RIP Ben.

Wow, I can't believe this! :( I've been on vacation for a couple weeks and haven't had internet access lately. The crazy thing is, I didn't know Ben well (met at NJC '07...like others) but I was thinking about him and his avatar over the past few days. Then, log on to JC and see this.....I'm shocked!

See, I was fishing w/ my Dad and thought how great it would be to take a photo w/ my fly rod in my teeth holding a salmon. Well, I never managed to get the 'right' shot.....so I've attached a different one......here's to you Ben! The JC community has suffered a tremendous loss!!!

Godspeed, BDHill....may you enjoy blue skies in eternity!

I'm not sure who wrote this, but I got it at another pilots funeral and wrote it down, as I thought it was extremely fitting..

It is a place where I have experienced many emotions and learned many lessons.
It is a place of work but also of dreams.
It is a place of deadly serious encounters,
Yet there I discover much about myself and about life.
I have felt joy and sorrow, pride and humility and fear and triumph.
I see much from there, that most can only dream of.
At times, it terrifies me, yet I always feel at home there.
It is my place, the aircraft mine, for those moments.

Though it is a place where I could quickly die,
the cockpit is the place where I truly live.

Rest in peace, Ben...
