flying on US Airways

I fly for free generally 2-3 times a month on US Air and now am more than willing to pay to fly on Airtran than to fly for free on US Air.

I haven't seen any difference from one airline to the next. Just flew United cross country last week, and from LGA-DEN didn't even get the can of coke, and I was in uniform. From DEN-SNA I got a tiny water bottle.

We went from PHL-BCN last month on Airways, and the service was pretty good, actually.

To the OP, as Meyers said, don't expect much more than a ride, which isn't any less than you'll get elsewhere.

I think the European carriers have better customer service than most domestic ones.

I agree... and would extend it to throughout the world. Since last summer, I have flown on 17 different carriers, 13 of them foreign. In comparison, customer service among US airlines is nearly non-existent.

I have to admit that the only upgrade to first class I've ever gotten was on a US Airways flight from PHL to SEA. The captain saw me in uniform and told the FA to upgrade me. They treated me really well on that flight.

Some of the worse service I've ever recieved has been on US Airways also. Their customer service sucks sometimes.

As does DAL/CAL/UAL/AA/SWA/F9 etc etc etc..... I dont think people in general these days really care enough to give the same quality of customer service as one recieved in the day.... And unfortunately the pax's have changed over the years and we've become a much more hostile society..... Thus both sides are to blame on the issue. I would never think to talk to a gate agent the way some of these people do. Nor would it have happen 40 plus years ago the way it does now. However the same goes the other direction, I would have never talked to a paying pax the way some agents do these days as well.... :)

What do you not get when you fly for free other then a guaranteed seat? Airtran is great to fly on but I would never pay to fly on Airtran if I had a free ticket with USairways... There's nothing wrong with USairways and its turning around. I do believe they were number 1 for on time performance last year and things are slowly changing for the better....

ANC? Go Alaska Airlines next time. They're actually great, never had a bad experience with them at any airport. Can't say that for any other airline I've flown except Jetblue.

Flying Delta domestically means there is a chance I get stuck on a regional...Something I prefer not to do if I have the option.

I hate to say it, but I try to avoid RJ's at all costs as well.

I probably will but I had to book last minute and I am going to Houston. Alaska doesn't start flying to Houston until end of September; I was able to get a direct flight back on Continental which is who I usually fly. My main point was to find out if US Airways provides meals included in your ticket price.

When I must fly US, here are some procedures I follow. Being in the middle of the country I never know what I am going to get.

First, ask "Are you guys an East crew?"

If "Yes", answer - "GOOD, I always feel better than if it is those West bastards. I am thrilled you guys got together and formed USAPA - can't believe those Westies were stealing your seniority!"

If the answer is "NO", answer - "Thank goodness! I hate those Easties. Hang tough against USAPA and soon they will be broke and you can go back to ALPA - BINDING is BINDING!"

I could personally care less...I am just angling for special treatment on the flight...a full can of Coke, perhaps some extra snacks, a smile from the cabin crew, etc.
Easy way to figure that out:
Flt Numbers 0-699 West
Flt Numbers 700-1499 East
Flt Numbers 1499+ Codeshares

But since it is ANC-PHX it will most definitely be West.

No meals btw.
