Pubnat 5/6

Any tips for contacting HR? My medical clearance is complete :D, but I am having a difficult time getting a response from C.S. in regard to a potential class date. Should I try contacting someone else in HR?

Thanks!!!

Preface: Please don't think I'm coming off harsh in this, as it's not my intent; this is merely the tone I've gotten in response to e-mails to my rep.

In all honesty, I would imagine they're starting to ignore most of the "when will I get a class date?" e-mails because HR isn't even supposed to get their metering numbers (ones that tell them which facilities need people the most) until next week or the week after, meaning you won't hear about your class date until the first of next month, at the earliest. Trust me, PUBNAT3 and 4 have been asking as well, but we're all in the same boat and have been waiting for quite a while now -- we were told at the February NY PEPC that we'd be in OKC in June or July at the latest, and then that got moved to "October at the earliest". If you are headed to a facility in dire need of trainees, you'll get your class date before someone (I would imagine) like me, who is going to a level 6 tower that doesn't necessarily have a burning need for more folks. I'm bracing for having to wait even longer for my date, though I hope being in PUBNAT4 will be helpful in getting me in sooner rather than later.

And I would advise you not contact anyone but your own rep -- they're designated for particular regions, and each one already has enough on his or her plate to keep them busy all month without answering another class date e-mail from someone not even assigned to them.

Jermscentral,

Thanks for the advice. No offense taken at all.

Prior to your response, I came across another contact: Aviation Careers Division, 405-954-4657. They were extremely helpful and were able to tell me about my security clearance, as well. It turns out that everything is in, and I have a conditional clearance. So, I just have to do more waiting to get the call about a class date. I have been waiting for a while now (not as much as others), but it seems like the waiting gets harder rather than easier.

jerms is right. Calling and emailing them isn't going to get your date any sooner, it's just taking up their time as they try to sort you out from the legitimate things they need to work on.

Put yourself in their shoes... you're covering an entire third of the country. You're processing hundreds of people, trying to get them in to handle a staffing crisis and dealing with the same poor management and communications that controllers are. If some guy keeps calling and emailing you just to bug you about the Academy date that you have no control over -- because you don't set the dates and you don't control when the clearances are done -- would you be inclined to help them out? Heh, I'd be more tempted to push them back in line.

Quit harassing your reps.

Calling and emailing them incessently only serves to get your application sent to the circular file.

This is more true than you know.

One of the HR reps was in for our orientation today, and she mentioned that she doesn't have time to hardly do anything because the phones are ringing off the hook.

I fully believe that. I've never talked to, or left a message for my HR rep.

I emailed her documents once, and then got an 'out of office' message. I tried to call her assistant, but didn't get through. I just faxed in my documents as well, just to ensure that they arrived.

Hopefully, I'll get my MMPI results back today....still waiting. It's the only thing left.....and then, BOOM, class date (madden style)

I definitely see what you guys are saying, and I've always held the same belief. But then you hear about guys who are waiting for a class date, send their HR rep an email asking about it, then suddenly they get a phone call about a class date. That doesn't seem like a coincidence, yet it doesn't necessarily happen to everyone that tries that. It makes it tempting to inquire about a class date, but the last thing I want to do is pester my HR rep. For the record, I have not asked about a class date yet. But after seeing some of the other people's results, I'll admit that I'm tempted.

Theres nothing wrong with keeping in touch with the HR rep, but it's keeping that contact reasonable in frequency that many have trouble with.......and end up in the circular file.

If you were PUBNAT2, I could see that as a definite temptation. Those of us in 2-4 that have been waiting 6 months since the PEPC and 4 months since all clearances were back would probably have to kill you if you got a class date before us, though. :D

Well jerms, I'll be honest--it's happened. And it's not necessarily students going to facilities that are "in need" of trainees that are filling the slots in Academy classes.

Most of my basics class was a mix of PUB3/4 and then a few PUB2ers like myself. It's pretty much a given that the wait time for OTS is a year and some change. Those who are going to the Academy in less than 6 months are definitely the exception and just so happen to get extremely lucky.

For those of you still waiting, don't pester HR, but don't become a total stranger, either. If 2 months passes and you're fully cleared and you haven't heard anything, shoot an email asking about your drug test expiration.

I know I'm shooting myself in the foot for saying this part, but my HR rep even told me over the phone that one of the reasons that helped me get my class date when I did was by being "fresh on her mind." I did NOT harass her, but I asked about my drug test and a few days later got a call about 7/14/09.

Keeping my fingers crossed for those of you still waiting!

I asked about my drug test shortly after you did, Sam, and my HR rep quit! :laff:

I try to limit phone calls to once a week, if that often even. My rep seems to be putting up with it ok.

UTAMAV:bandit:
Once a week? Jesus.. I've talked to my HR Rep twice. 1 when I had B.R. before she quit, and E.M. once last week after she tried calling ME about something.

Yyyyeah, you'd be close to tempting me to toss you in the ol' file. I'm not going to forget about you if you don't call me weekly.

Here's another way to put it: call if you're experiencing something unusual, as compared to others that you see here or on that other ATC-related forum. Otherwise, let them do their work, quit holding it up for the rest of us. Are you PUBNAT5/6 and haven't gotten a date yet? Yeah, that's normal, some of 3/4 haven't yet. Don't call. Are you PUBNAT2 and haven't gotten a date yet? Time to call.

Nah, I'm not even calling my rep....I'm just calling the front desk at AC. I give her my name, last four of social, and she updates me on what is in, that's all. Even if I were calling my rep, it won't stop a bureaucracy, cause you and I both know, if they don't want to talk, they wont answer, and if they dont have any news for you, they dont call back. It takes like 15 seconds.....so, 15 seconds out of 604,800 seconds in a week....pft, I'll take my 15 seconds, even if it sends me to the file.

I know guys that call for updates twice to four times a week, that's a bit overkill.

And, for what it's worth, is there anyone who has not received MMPI results? Most of the guys i've talked to have received their MMPI results but are lacking security, medical. I have passed medical, security, and drug but not MMPI. I haven't received any bad news (no news, good news thing), but it would be nice to know I passed.

I've gotten a couple different stories from AC now.

I first called Monday and was told they had my security results, as well as my drug screen results and that they were waiting on medical and the MMPI results.

I called again today to double check, because someone else was told to check back on Wednesday because they were expecting some more medical results. The lady I talked to today said that ONLY my drug test has come back. So apparently in the matter of two days I've actually lost clearances

I guess I just need to try and get in touch with my HR rep, apparently they are the only ones who really know.
