Help! My parents won't let me go to my dream college!

I'm so wearing that to work sometime.

My big bright idea was to get a Top Gun style fighter pilot helmet all modded with cool pictures on it complete with slide down shades to wear whilst I instructed in the 172. Got as far as looking for them on ebay and saw how much they cost. wow, downer, dude.

:rotfl: Great line!

I have a problem though, I am going to Ari Ben Aviator for a visit (most likely starting next month) and I want to attend college also, thing is, I most likely would be an instructor down there because I don't know any multi engine schools in NJ to work for and though I would love to go to college in NJ, I can't so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me relating to cheap colleges in FL, or any good flight schools to work for in NJ so that way I could go to MCC and then on to Rutgers or something...

Look at Bethune Cookman University. I hear a lot of folks from the carribean go there.

They even have a studen group. http://www.cookman.edu/campuslife/student_life/stud_org/index.html

Just keep in mind if you go to Dowling you're going to have to buy a pilot uniform and FO epaulets; I hope you're okay with that.

I have a feeling he wouldn't have a problem w/ wearing the uniform & probably enjoy every second of it.

easyyyyy, just jokes here :D

I like Dowling, because it has an Executive Pilot Minor, which means that you'll get a PPL with an Instrument Rating, which WON'T lead to me flying commercially. They also have a local FBO at Brookhaven Airport where they do sport pilot training just in case I can't get a medical.

First get a medical. That way you know. How does getting a business degree and Riddle lead you to fly commercially? You said you were going to get your ratings at an FBO anyway. Riddle is useless for your purpose. Get your degree locally and fly at the local FBO. You will save 100k in the process. That may not seem like a real number to you but think 700/mo for 30 years.

I used to think it would be cool to go to a place like UND or ERAU and be around pilots all the time. But then I realized that would suck and be a total sausage fest. Go to a "real" college, get the most out of it, meet people who can help you down the road in other areas of your life other than getting flying jobs. Also, I'd say don't get a degree that says you can fly an airplane. Let your logbook tell that tale, get a degree that will help you do something else. I'm either going with Airline Management or Aviation Meteorology with ATC as a backup. Always have a back up, ya heaaaard?

I don't want to fly commercially. The highest I wanna go is be a private pilot, or a sport pilot.

This should be the logical progression of your career. Done any other way, you will be an awful pilot and will not make it to the big leagues.

1.) Play Flight Sim 4 hours out of the day while in full uniform, until enrolled at college.

2.) Only enroll in a college that charges 4x the amount of money as a regular degree because the word aviation is in front of the degree name. (ie Aviation Management)

3.) Go hit on girls at previously mentioned college parties while in full uniform w/ epaulets and make sure the first words out of your mouth is..."I'm a pilot."

4.) After graduating college 100k in debt (without your CFI's) spend more money by hoping into the right seat of a turbo-prop with Key Lime Air. For about 15k they can even give you a Metroliner SIC type....YEAH.

5.) After receiving your 250 SIC turbine in a Metroliner go out and buy a 73' type. You will most def. get a job at 500 hours TT and a 737 type.

6.) Sit around for 2 months collecting unemployment and then hop on JC and create a thread complaining about how everyone else has had it so easy and how your career progression is awful just because of bad luck and not because you are a moron.

7.) Your next step is to land a job at Great Lakes making 14/hr flying in the right seat of a 1900. (You now have 150k of debt, but it doesn't matter you are flying part 121 / under part 135 duty rules that is)

8.) Upgrade at Lakes and now make 20/hr. PIC TURBINE THOUGH FTWWZ

9.) After you get 1000hrs. PIC Turbine instantly quit your job because that is all you will ever need. You are now ready to take the jump from a 19 seat prop to a 100+ seat jet for a legacy career.

10.) Go out and buy a 757/767 type to be more competitive.

11.) 12 months after being unemployed come back to JC and repeat step 6.

12.) Apply for Pubnat

13.) Get accepted and finish your career life as an ATC'er and start paying back all your debt.

14.) At age 60 retire and then collect off of the system, as broke as the day you started. Drive a 10yr old Toyota and lease a scummy economy apartment because that is all your retirement checks will cover while you continue to pay off your debt.

15.) Die poor, miserable, and alone

That is my 15 step program to my career. Word's to live by.
