Help! My parents won't let me go to my dream college!

I live in Daytona and know a multitude of Riddle grads and current students, and I agree with everyone else here. I also have a degree in Aviation Management from another school and I can tell you that a bachelor's degree in management (ESPECIALLY Aviation management) is pretty much worthless right now without a Masters to back it up. If you're getting a master's anyway there's no point in sinking $100K + into a place like Riddle for your undergrad. Even if you're not, there are far better options.

As an aside I think it's borderline criminal that Embry-Riddle is still pushing their Aeronautical Science degree. Sure, in better times it would help to land a career as a commercial pilot, but beyond that it was and is completely useless. In the foreseeable future absolutely no need exists for more low-time pilots, and Congress is inevitably going to turn that into law soon.

P.S. Daytona Beach is WAY overrated...

Riddle does not focus on aviation buisness, and don't let them tell you they do. It is the same biz classes you would take at any other 4 yr place. The way they try to sell it as aviation biz is that you MIGHT look at a case study of an airline, airport etc. But in reality undergrad is learning the basics, accting, marketing, finance, etc. and you have to learn those formulas first before anything else.

I would think a dream college would be one with the highest girl (preferably really pretty ones!) to guy ratio. Thats just me though!

You won't get that at Riddle.

At Riddle, you'll get 35 guys drinking Keystone light around a campfire, three women that you generally wouldn't give the time of day at home, a couple of "townies" and at least one slap fight about what controls glidepath, pitch or power.

Good Lord! What a mental image that is. Sad thing is, I've seen something close to that in real life. (Where is the emoticon for "shudders.")

Are ties and epaulets required at this cornucopia of toolishness?

I said it before and I'll say it again....

ERAU is like unprotected sex, at first it feels good you got in, but then you're sorry you came!

Just keep in mind if you go to Dowling you're going to have to buy a pilot uniform and FO epaulets; I hope you're okay with that.

I have a feeling he wouldn't have a problem w/ wearing the uniform & probably enjoy every second of it.

:rotfl: Great line!

I have a problem though, I am going to Ari Ben Aviator for a visit (most likely starting next month) and I want to attend college also, thing is, I most likely would be an instructor down there because I don't know any multi engine schools in NJ to work for and though I would love to go to college in NJ, I can't so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me relating to cheap colleges in FL, or any good flight schools to work for in NJ so that way I could go to MCC and then on to Rutgers or something...

After community college in NJ, I narrowed down the choices to 2 4-year colleges. Dowling College in Long Island and ERAU in Daytona Beach. The problem is that my parents won't let me go to ERAU because it's too far away and they think I'm not ready to live on my own yet. I love ERAU becuase everyone over there loves aviation. Plus, I'm planning to start a flight simulator club or some kind of aviation club over there and I think I will have a better chance of starting that club at a place where everyone loves aviation.

It's not that I want to go to ERAU only I just don't want my parents to rule out ERAU.

What should I do?
well played

I like Dowling, because it has an Executive Pilot Minor, which means that you'll get a PPL with an Instrument Rating, which WON'T lead to me flying commercially. They also have a local FBO at Brookhaven Airport where they do sport pilot training just in case I can't get a medical.

In before lock!

No man. Back in the day it was utilitarian work boots, a Timex Indiglo and a hypercolor t-shirt.
Man, i had one of those!

They have much cheaper ones at party city.
