Pubnat 5/6

B. My new eye glasses have not come in yet. My vision has changed slightly from my last perscription. Seeing 20/20 on the chart at the eye Dr. was a bit sketchy, however I seem to recall having an easier time with the DMV syle tester. If I fail my eye exam with my old glasses I'll fu*king lose it though. I'll get Lasik if I have too....

When I went and had my eye exam done this past week, I had my optometrist fill out FAA Form 8500-7, which is the form they give you to take to your doctor if you don't pass the vision exam at the PEPC. I figured I would like to just have it ready in case there are any issues with the eye exam.

While I tested fine to 20/20 with both my current prescription and my new one, I wanted to be sure. And since my new glasses won't be here till after the PEPC anyways, he gave me a trial pair of contacts in my new prescription so I can try those at the PEPC if needs be.

Kind of a side note, but I know that the FAA used to really frown on Lasik. I have heard of instances where people didn't get it preapproved and got "processed in accordance with agency directives". I think nowadays they are easing up on it, but I think you still have to get it preapproved. But, like I said that was back in the day, so ymmv.
Two of my friends who are controllers both had Lasik done. They both had it done years ago before they were with the Agency. They had no problems passing any of the medical stuff even though they had done it, so my guess is they really don't care.

Here's a question (probably the wrong thread, but whatever)...

On a scale of 1 to 10 how badly does a person need a computer/laptop in OKC?? I'm thinking...15, at least. But I thought I'd get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. opinion.

I'm bringing mine, but it's like my pulse. I can't live without it.

Of course it is... It's a MAC.

PCs don't need umbilical cords!:laff:

See, I am addicted to my laptop. But my husband, don't laugh, is a computer-hater. He JUST learned what LOL and TTYL means! But anyway, if he is going to need one in OKC then we are going to need to buy another laptop. And since that really isn't in our budget...we'd need to start saving up. I think I'm going to insist we get on just so we can stay in touch easier (webcams & such) but I didn't know if it was essential for him to go out there with one.

You can always get a netbook instead of a full size notebook. Most if not all netbook comes with built in webcams, very light (less than 5lbs) and very portable (8.9 - 10.2 widescreen). And prices vary from 199 - 299.

Has everything you need for your basic internet usage, word docs, video playing, listening to music, etc. You just can't do heavy gaming or anything that require heavy system usage, ex video editing.

I'm most likely will pick one up if and when I get a class date.

FYI, here is the FAA building for those of us who will be driving there ourselves. I drove past this building at least 6 times, even though they had a blue car level sign (says "department of transportation") out front. I did NOT think it was the right places. For goodness sake it looks like a prison!! LOL!! Any way the rolad you see on the right hand side, you take that and drive all the way to the back and that is where the FAA building is.
Anyway, this is for people who, like me, have to know where we are going at all times. :D

You don't specifically need a computer for class. Yeah, you get a CD in basics that has all of the lesson plans on it, but you have ready access to the printed material which is much easier to read IMHO.

I'll let you guys know if one would be really helpful for Phase 2 or not, but from talking to others, I highly doubt it.

Thanks! My husband was laid off in April and we've been living off my student loans since May (not fun) so every dollar has to be budgeted out. If we aren't able to get another laptop before he goes out there then we will probably get one when the per diem checks start coming in. It's just good to know that he won't be missing out on any classroom stuff if he doesn't have one right away.

I KNOW people are thinking...why is she talking about OKC when he hasn't even gone through the PEPC yet?!? But seriously, after all this time...I've come to realize that there is no sense in being pessimistic about it. Of course I'm worried that something could go wrong (security clearance, MMPI, etc) but if I wait to concern myself with this stuff, WHEN the FOL gets here, I'll be freaking out trying to get things done in a matter of weeks instead of months.

:clap:Oh...and Happy Fathers day to all the dads out there!!:clap:

Anyone else getting real nervous for PEPC tomorrow?? Everyone says it is so relaxed but when you've put in over a year waiting for this interview it is extremely nerve racking!! Well, Good luck to everyone tomorrow. 12 hours and counting

Good luck to all the ppl goin to PEPC this week, my interview went great, and I'm sure you'll all do fine. No reason to get worried or nervous.
