Badges? We don't need no stinking Badges!

It's not just in MT. Any airport that has scheduled airline service is going to be required to have the airport IDs. From ATL to MEM to BZN, if you have a pax service to the airport get ready for the stupidity to begin.

What bursts my bubble is that I am not in the SIDA here at MEM, just the AOA so technically according to the video training that I have accomplished, thank you shelby county, I do not have to display my ID badge above my waist. But if you read in the "Your Responsibilities In the Airport Security Plan" you do. All information is for the airline terminal.

The TSA has no idea how to handle GA. Maybe the should have actually listen instead of talking AT GA.

I know the video that you speak of, are they going to issue you a SIDA badge as well?

I still prefer Senseless Implication and Demonstration of Authority

:yeahthat:

What is the SIDA and AOA?

I think the TSA thinks GA stands for "GO AWAY"

What a bunch of Rtards. I remember my TSA "training" it was all of 10 minuets long on their website and it basically taught me how to call the authorities about suspicious activities. DUH. Any four year old with some Stranger Danger training could tell you that.

Is the AOPA fighting this push for badges? If not i think they should be. I mean, whats next?

-Matt

AOPA is trying to fight it...but how do you flight a quasi governmental unit that holds all the aces and gives you threes? It's an uphill battle that will be raging for many many years to come. Until someone finds a way to place sanctions on the TSA in some form or another than it will continue.

I hate to mention this...

But just like ALPA, AOPA is only as strong as its membership.

We all need to show our opposition to these TSA initiatives and do what we can to help level the playing field.

The fundamental problem is that the TSA has been given the authority to unilaterally implement any program that they feel is necessary in the name of 'security'

The other issue is that with the administration change many people are creating 'projects' so that they have an excuse to keep their jobs. Plus every manager is trying to 'make their mark' on the TSA. Change for changes sake if ya know what I mean.

What is SIDA and AOA?

I don't know exactly what SIDA stands for, but it's the big red line drawn on the ramp. The one you can't even let the strobe light on your wingtip cross.

AOA is Airport Operations Area, ie, ramp access. BIS made all of the pilots there get badges, and gave a keycard to every pilot on the field for vehicle access to the ramp, whereas before, they had to walk through the FBO. So by increasing the security at the airport, they in fact made the airport less secure. Go figure. (On a side note, the only video we had to watch before getting the badge was a "how to drive on an airport" video, as if none of us had ever done it before. There was no security training at all)

Sort of, my badge allows access for the WAC ramp but that is just about it. But I can escort someone in the SIDA area.

Do WHAAATTT?!?!? :panic::panic::panic:

I have a MEM issued SIDA badge, for the actual SIDA and ramp access. I am based in MEM and even I can't escort our own pilots from another base to and from our ops location. :banghead::banghead:

This is such BS. It also blow that there is going to be no standarization in the system. Each little airport gets to use its own system which will just add to the confusion and cost.

This is a slipperly slope. What else will they try to do to impede general aviation. I would say something sarcastic here but TSA would probably implement that too.

I used to have a lanyard in which I carried license/medical/company ID, but it sort of chafes when hung around a hoodie (that's a uniform piece for me), so I put that junk in my wallet. Now I just arrive out of nowhere in a plane with no windows, park myself, skulk around the the ramp at the second busiest airport in the world dressed like I'm homeless, smoking ciagrettes, and carrying my sleeping bag/SA14-carrying-case over one shoulder. So far I haven't drawn a second look from the insane, coke-addled late night rampers driving around at 70mph playing bumper-tugs. Maybe next week I'll add a balklava, and start screaming "ALLAHU ACKBAR!@" whilst pointing the sleeping bag at the 777s coming in from Europe, see what that does. Vaterland Sekuritay!

What a bunch of excrement-guzzling clowns.

Yeah, I have the nice little E. PM me sometime, I'm here 5 days a week.

Would this be IAD? I used to be one of the rampers playing bumper-tugs on the way to the main terminal.

Gotta be ATL... the bumper-tug comment clinched it!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:BTDT....

I really love the star treament I receive in SDF too. Park on a cargo ramp and start doing a walk around on the 727 and some guy comes out and starts screaming that I can't be out of the airplane with out a SDF badge or escort.

Unfortunately this crap never ends and most likely will get worse.

One time in IAD I was coming into the E gates (if you remember that POS area) and saw a guy with no ID walking between planes looking in cargo holds of the parked planes....Told ground and ramp both didn't seem interested and the cops took 15 minutes to show up.

Well i just filled out my application. The airport actually is kicking in half of our fee for the badge. It's only $25 bucks. Not too bad.

The dumb thing though is that we don't have to have them on a lanyard. We just need to have them on our persons at all times but it does not have to be displayed.

What is the point of the stupid badge then?!?!!?!?
